Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey is seeking a Nurse Anesthetist for the Department of Anesthesiology within the Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
The primary purpose of the Nurse Anesthetist (Certified Registered) position is to administer anesthesia-related care in four general categories: (1) pre-anesthetic preparation and evaluation (2) anesthesia induction, maintenance and emergence, (3) post-anesthesia care, and (4) peri-anesthetic and clinical support functions.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Performing and documenting a pre-anesthetic assessment and evaluation of the patient, including requesting consultations and diagnostic studies, selecting, obtaining, ordering or administering pre-anesthetic medications and fluids; and obtaining informed consent for anesthesia.Develops and implements an anesthetic plan.Selecting and initiating the planned anesthetic technique which may include: general, regional, local anesthesia, and intravenous sedation/monitored anesthesia care (MAC).Selecting, obtaining or administering the anesthetics, adjuvant drugs, accessory drugs, and fluids necessary to manage the anesthetic, to maintain the patient's physiologic homeostasis, and to correct abnormal responses to the anesthesia or surgery.Selecting, applying, or inserting appropriate non-invasive and invasive monitoring modalities for collecting and interpreting patient physiological data.Managing a patient's airway and pulmonary status using endotracheal intubation, mechanical ventilation, pharmacological support, respiratory therapy or extubation.Managing emergence and recovery from anesthesia by selecting, obtaining, ordering or administering medications, fluids, or ventilator support in order to maintain homeostasis, to provide relief from pain and anesthesia side effects, or to prevent or manage complications.Position Status: Per Diem

Qualifications:
Graduate of an accredited Nurse Anesthesia Education Program with a Master's Degree in a related field; or graduation from a program accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Education programs prior to January 1998 is required.Certifications/Licenses:
Applicants must have successfully completed the National Certification Examination to be a CRNA and maintain current certification.Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse and Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) in the State of New Jersey and current certification as a Nurse Anesthetist by the Council on Certification/recertification of Nurse Anesthetists of the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists.Successful completion/certification in Basic and Advanced Cardiac Life Support.A Nurse Anesthetist who has not obtained certification as an Advanced Practice Nurse shall cease to administer anesthesia.Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Candidate must have sufficient sensory capacity to observe the patient and patient monitors.Candidate must be able to communicate effectively in both academic and health care settings.Must show evidence of effective written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work in teams and possess demonstrated ability to exercise good judgment, and effectively function in the face of uncertainties inherent in clinical practice.Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Physical Demands: Sensory skills adequate to perform a physical examination are required. Functional vision, hearing and tactile sensation must be adequate to observe a patient's condition and to elicit information from computerized monitors.Work Environment: Candidate must be able to measure, calculate, reason, analyze and synthesize, both in quiet environments and in areas where distractions, noise and other stressors are present.Special Conditions:
