Job Description Job Summary: The Nurse Clinician-Peds Cardiology, practices in a Magnet recognized tertiary academic Children's Hospital with Level One Pediatric Trauma Designation.
Utilizes skilled discretion and independent judgment to prioritize, coordinate, provide and document direct and indirect age-specific and developmentally appropriate quality patient-centered care and treatment management to pediatric patients with cardiac conditions in the inpatient and outpatient setting.
Utilizes disease-specific knowledge base to perform the nursing process (assessment, care planning, intervention, evaluation) independently and in accordance with LLUCH's established Professional Practice Model (Duffy's Quality Caring Theory) to achieve proficient individualized physical, psychosocial and spiritual wellness and provide compassionate bereavement support as needed.
Facilitates a seamless multidisciplinary approach to whole-person care across the continuum by coordinating and case managing the pediatric and fetal cardiology patient population in partnership with physicians and nurse practitioners.
Collaborates with other healthcare team members and participates in team conferences to coordinate implementation of treatment recommendations, appointments, diagnostic studies, etc.
Supports Institutional Review Board (IRB) approved nursing and physician research activities.
Inspires and adopts the transformation of evidence into point-of-care practice to optimize patient outcomes.
Applies theoretical concepts to clinical practice and exhibits self-motivation to continually expand knowledge base and clinical skills with a focus in pediatric cardiology treatments and procedures.
Functions within the expectations of an accomplished professional nurse and meets nursing excellence standards to maintain Magnet Recognition as outlined by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
Represents nursing as an empowered profession and readily embraces new knowledge, innovations and improvements.
Provides a positive influence to facilitate change and optimize patient satisfaction and outcomes.
Engages in opportunities to directly and indirectly influence decision-making for clinical practice at point-of-care by supporting and participating in professional governance councils, committees, task forces and staff meetings.
Exhibits refined interpersonal skills that portray professionalism and maximize excellence in customer service and safe patient care.
Contributes to a work environment of caring and cooperation among a culturally diverse workforce and patient population.
Performs other duties as needed.
Education and Experience: Bachelor's Degree in nursing required.
Minimum of two years' experience in pediatric nursing required.
One year experience in pediatric cardiology preferred.
Knowledge and Skills: Must have in-depth knowledge of pediatric and fetal cardiology, clinical pathways, research, evidenced-based practice, healthcare quality, patient safety, performance improvement, regulatory standards, medical staff structure, healthcare law and finance and legal aspects of care.
Able to: apply theoretical concepts to clinical practice and continually expands knowledge base and clinical skills with a focus in pediatric and fetal cardiology.
Able to: read; write legibly; communicate in English (and Spanish preferred) with professional quality; use computer, printer and software programs necessary to the position, e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, troubleshoot and calibrate patient care equipment; perform technical patient care activities.
Able to: relate and communicate positively, effectively and professionally with others; be assertive and consistent in following and enforcing policies; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; lead, supervise, teach and collaborate; accept direction.
Able to: think critically; work independently with minimal supervision; perform basic math and statistical functions; compose written material; manage multiple assignments effectively; organize and prioritize workload; work well under pressure; problem solve; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail.
Able to: distinguish colors and smells as necessary for patient care; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone; identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the work place and patient care; see adequately to read computer screens, medical records and written documents necessary to position; discern temperature variances through touch.
Licensures and Certifications: California Registered Nurse (RN) license required.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association required.
