Definition
The City of Norwalk is currently looking for a Nutrition Aide to join their team and work in the Elderly Nutrition program at the Social Services Center.
The ideal candidate should have a strong passion for serving the senior community of Norwalk and possess a positive and compassionate attitude toward their work.
The Nutrition Aide will assist the Recreation Supervisor in managing the nutrition program for Home Delivered Meals and Congregate.
This role involves providing administrative and programmatic support to the assigned Site Coordinators and Meal Drivers in coordinating senior program services.
Essential Duties

Assist with the compliance and quality for Home Delivered Meals and Congregate Sites Assign new Home Delivered Meal clients to a route and coordinate new ones; maintain and update route sheets and have them ready for drivers each day for clients with Home Delivered Meal drivers Assist with Home Delivered Meal and Site Coordinator's work schedules, vacations, sick time, etc.
Perform client assessment and reassessments in the Home Delivered Meal program as assigned by the Recreation Supervisor Answer phone, talk to potential clients and answer client questions Safety and Security - Observes safety and security procedures, reports, potentially unsafe conditions, uses equipment and materials properly Writes case notes for services, maintain confidential records, and manages client case files Communicate between departments/staff where there is overlap in jobs Follow through on assignments in a timely manner Responsible for counting donation money and making donation deposits as needed Coordinates inter-office communications; necessary agency documents; provide support to Recreation Supervisor as needed Identifies specifications for purchase of goods and services, office supplies nutrition supplies for the Senior Department and then will coordinate the purchase of goods and services with the Recreation Supervisor.
Responsible for monthly menus per the Certified Menu that will include design and distribution Takes minutes of nutrition-related meetings, translates minutes, presents to Recreation Supervisor, and keeps files for monitoring purposes of all related documents.
Substitute Site Coordinator and Meal Driver as needed.
Prepares reports regarding client attendance and participation, activities, programs, and related program matters.

Knowledge of: must maintain pleasant working relationships with all employees, clients, vendors, and City and County, representatives.
Speak clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations; listen and receive clarification; respond to questions, and use PC operations and software such as Microsoft Office Word and Excel.
Skills in: problem-solving, written and communication,
Ability to: perform multiple tasks simultaneously, prepare written reports, correspondence and maintain accurate records, effectively present information, and respond to questions from supervisors, directors, clients, and the public.
Ability to communicate effectively with individuals from various socio-economic backgrounds, verbally communicate and listen in meetings.
Work independently as well as part of a team, work with multiple deadlines.
Maintain a courteous attitude toward the public and co-workers, and ability to operate a computer, calculator, and other office equipment.
Education and Experience
Graduation from High School or GED equivalent and/or a minimum of one (1) year experience in performing the duties in one or more of the areas listed above.
Special Requirements A valid Class C California Driver License, possession of a good driving record, transportation vehicle and Certified Safe Food Handler (successful completion of the ServSafe examination).

Retirement: Membership in the Public Agency Retirement System (PARS) is required.
The employee pays the 7.5% retirement contribution.

Paid Holidays: After 3,000 hours of employment, an hourly employee is entitled to six hours pay for specified holidays designated in the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
Vacation Leave: After 3,000 hours of employment, vacation leave is accumulated at the rate of .046 hours for each hour of straight time worked.
Sick Leave: Beginning on the 30th day of employment with the City, employee will accrue sick leave at the rate of .033 hours for each hour of straight time worked.
No sick leave shall be taken until the 90th day of employment.
After 3,000 hours of employment, sick leave is accumulated at the rate of .046 hours for each hour of straight time worked.
Medical Plan: Eligibility for medical coverage is determined using the Affordable Care Act guidelines.
Employees may also qualify after 3,000 hours of employment.
Voluntary Insurance Plans: Optional Short Term Disability, Hospitalization, Accident and Cancer insurance policies are available at the employee's cost.
