Mass General Brigham is seeking a Occupational Therapist for a job in Everett, Massachusetts. Qualifications 1. M ust be a graduate of an accredited occupational therapy program. 2. M ust possess a current unrestricted license to practice occupational therapy from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. 3. M ust have a minimum of four (4) years of clinical experience. The minimum experience requirement may be waived at the discretion of the Director in collaboration with the leadership team of the department, for individuals with other relevant experience and a performance record that consistently exceeds expectations. SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED: 1. M ust possess communication and interpersonal skills sufficient for effective leadership and training of assigned personnel and working relationships within the department and assigned unit, in addition to those skills required of a staff therapist (up to 90% of work time). 2. M ust possess analytical abilities and sound knowledge in Occupational Therapy to act as an education and clinical resource, in order to assist with development and implementation of programs, policies, and procedures and for orientation and training of new staff therapist (up to 90% of work time). 3. W ork requires up to three months orientation to acquire necessary familiarity with department and hospital policies and procedures, and the specific quality standards of care and procedures unique to the assigned patient area. 4. M ust possess effective communication skills (written and verbal) to interact with patients (up to 70% of work time), rehabilitation and medical team (up to 20% of work time), and patients' families (up to 10% of work time). 5. W ork requires prolonged walking and standing (up to 95% of work time); lifting, transferring, and positioning of patients and equipment (10% - 50% of work time), and the transportation of patients (up to 10% of work time). 6. W ork with critically ill patients (up to 10% of work time) produces a high level of stress and mental fatigue. 7. M ust be able to work with newborns (up to 10% of the work time) to the oldest old (up to 10% of the work time). The majority of patient care (70% of work time) is the 18 - to 65-year-olds. 8. T he individual in this position must demonstrate appropriate knowledge of the principles of growth and development, which would include neonates to the oldest old. In addition, the therapist must demonstrate competency in assessment and treatment relative to age specific needs for the patient population for which they provide therapy, and as described in the department's practice standards. WORKING CONDITIONS: 1. W orks in hospital environments where there is some exposure to blood/body fluids/hazardous materials, communicable diseases (10% - 25% of work time) and unpleasant odors (up to 25% of work time). 2. W ork requiring physical effort for lifting, transferring, and positioning of patients and/or equipment (up to 50% of work time) may result in musculoskeletal strain or injury with improper body mechanics. 3. W ork requires use of sharp and/or electrical equipment (up to 20%), which could result in, cuts or burns with improper safety. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Assists with supervision and education of staff therapists, assistants, and aides. FISCAL RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. P atient charges are entered in an accurate and timely manner as appropriately supported by the medical documentation. 2. H ospital and department equipment is managed in an appropriate and cost-efficient manner. HOSPITAL WIDE RESPONSIBILITIES: Works within legal, regulatory, accreditation and ethical practice standards relevant to the position and as established by BWH/Partners; follows safe practices required for the position; complies with appropriate BWH and Partners policies and procedures; fulfills any training required by BWH and/or Partners, as appropriate; brings potential matters of non-compliance to the attention of the supervisor or other appropriate hospital staff. The Senior Occupational Therapist (OT) is a therapist with a minimum of four (4) years of experience with strong clinical knowledge and skills working with rehabilitation of the hand/wrist/forearm/elbow. The ideal candidate must demonstrate the ability to work independently in an active clinic, triage walk-in consults, and possess the ability to closely collaborate with colleagues and department leadership. In addition to their primary responsibilities for patient care they have additional clinical and non-clinical tasks and responsibilities delegated to them. The Department of Rehabilitation Services at Brigham and Women's Hospital provides physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech-language pathology, and orthopedic technology services to inpatients and outpatients on a consult basis. Brigham and Women's Hospital is a nationally ranked academic medical center and includes the Department of Rehabilitation with staff at the following ambulatory locations: main campus in Boston, Chestnut Hill, Center for Child Development, Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Foxboro, and the too be opened 1285 Beacon Street Clinic in Brookline, M A. Therapists will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of Rehabilitation Department Committees to enhance their professional growth in addition to their clinical care. These committees include: The Community Resource Committee, Practice Standards Committee, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion Committee, Staff Development Committee, Rehab Recognition Committee, and Research Committee. Primary Assigned Clinical Area: Ambulatory Care @ 70 Francis Street, Boston, M A. Main Campus Ambulatory Clinic of BW H. Key needs for a clinician in this new clinic are: - Establishing collegial communication between referring physicians, surgeons, and physician assistants. - Connecting and collaborating with other BWH Outpatient Hand Therapists to provide evidence-based and consistent practice patterns across clinic sites. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. E xamines and evaluates patient's occupational therapy needs. Formulates an occupational therapy diagnosis and develops a treatment plan with treatment goals directed towards maximizing function. 2. D emonstrates competency in all clinical knowledge and skills specific to the patient case type(s) in assigned area of care. 3. A cts as a clinical or non-clinical resource. 4. C onsults with other members of the health care team to ensure coordination and effectiveness of therapies provided. 5. I s assigned additional tasks and responsibilities which may include, but not be limited to: orientation of new staff, participation on committees, involvement in QI activities, supervision of students and aides, and involvement in developing/revising practice standards. 6. P articipates in implementation of quality assurance program for clinical service. 7. A ssists in implementation of triaging, prioritizing, monitoring admissions, referrals, and discharges to and from the service as assigned. 8. P articipates in special interest group or committee within the department in order to promote staff education and program development. 9. A ssists in proper care and distribution of department supplies and equipment, making recommendations for adequate inventory and appropriate and new equipment. 10. I n the absence of the clinical supervisor, assumes duties and responsibilities as assignedby the Director. 11. P articipates in departmental meetings, which help to formulate policies, procedures, and program development. 12. P erforms other duties as assigned.
