Description: The Mid-Columbia Agricultural Research and Extension Center ( MCAREC ) is seeking an Office Manager. This full-time (1.0 FTE ), 12-month, professional faculty position provides administrative, supervisory, operational and professional support for MCAREC and the OSU Extension Hood River Office in Hood River, OR.
The Office Manager (OM) position is crucial to the day-to-day operations of MCAREC and the OSU Extension Hood River Office. The OM is a team member of MCAREC and OSU Extension Hood River Office and provides executive support for the office, the MCAREC Director and the Central Regional Extension and Engagement Director ( DIRECTORS ). This includes general administration and management, fiscal activities, facilities, human resources, risk management aspects, and any other services integral to MCAREC , OSU Extension Hood River and the Central Region. The position will provide supervision and direction for assigned staff and will collaborate with DIRECTORS to ensure support is available for programs. In addition, this OM will work collaboratively to increase the diversity of the University's workforce, including assisting with the University's Civil Rights program. The Office Manager must manage operations by deciding independently on appropriate actions and reporting those decision results to DIRECTORS as appropriate. This individual works with personnel at all levels of the university to determine the applicable policies, standards, rules, and procedures for operational activities and consistently and efficiently applies them appropriately. In addition, this person will work collaboratively with the DIRECTORS to develop strong, positive local relationships with county governments, elected and appointed county/state/federal officials, and local stakeholders. About the College of Agricultural Sciences MCAREC is one of fourteen agricultural experiment station locations of Oregon State University's College of Agricultural Sciences. Research at MCAREC primarily focuses on the tree fruit industry in Oregon, which is centered in the Columbia Gorge, and the tree fruit industry across the Pacific Northwest. The Columbia Gorge is known for its production of pears, cherries, apples, and wine grapes. Oregon is the nation's second largest pear producer and third largest cherry producer. MCAREC has a 52-acre campus in Hood River, OR that includes research orchards, greenhouse facilities, research laboratories, and cold storage chambers. In addition to the OSU research facilities, the campus houses a work site for the USDA Agricultural Research Service ( USDA - ARS ), the Hood River County office of the OSU Extension Service, the Hood River Soil and Water Conservation District, and the Hood River Watershed Group. Minimum Qualifications (Staff) / Guidelines (Faculty): Typically requires Bachelor's Degree in related field and 3 years office management experience in a complex office environment or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Requirements : Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, Business Management, Communications, Finance, Management, Non-profit Management, or in an applicable field and three years' professional experience providing administrative and/or financial support to a program or office; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and professional administrative and/or financial support experience. The administrative support and personnel management may include demonstrated ability to plan, organize, evaluate, manage, and delegate; set priorities; and manage multiple projects, activities, and deadlines simultaneously. The financial support may include budgeting, reconciling, accounts payable/receivable, and property management. Demonstrated experience with budgets and general financial management Demonstrated effective communication skills. Demonstrated interpersonal skills to work as a collaborative member of a team. Excellent customer service skills. Experience with organization, decision-making, problem solving skills. Proficient in the use of computers including applications such as or similar to Microsoft Office Suite for word processing, spreadsheet development, electronic mail, and scheduling. A commitment to promote and enhance diversity and inclusion; and ability to interact with others with broad and diverse backgrounds. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Ability to make independent decisions and recommendations which align with policies and ability to serve as a resource person. Ability to supervise and manage student workers and staff. This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months. Type: The incumbent will work on-site at the MCAREC and Extension Service Hood River office. On-site work is primarily indoors in a typical office environment during normal business hours. There may be occasional early morning or evening work in association with events conducted by the Center and Extension office.
