Navajo Preference Employment Act

In accordance with Navajo Nation and federal law, TCRHCC has implemented an Affirmative Action Plan pursuant to the Navajo Preference in Employment Act. POSITION SUMMARYThis position serves as an oncologist and hematologist at the Specialty Care Center. The service is supported by a nurse practitioner, pharmacist, and clinical nurses. The care model allows for flexibility through virtual telehealth and in person care. The patient panel involves medical care services for adult patients. The incumbent is responsible for multi-disciplinary care plans designed to treat cancers with focused care in the following disease sites: breast, gynecologic malignancies, GI system, and GU system.

QualificationsNECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS Education: A Medical Degree, MD or DOCompletion of a three (3) year residency program in Internal MedicineCompletion of fellowship in Hematology/OncologyBoard Eligible or Board Certified by the American Board of Internal MedicineLicense: Must possess and maintain a current and unrestricted license to practice as a physician in any state within the United States, District of Columbia or the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.
Credentialing: Additional credentialing/privileging qualifications required for membership to the Medical Staff.
Other Skills and Abilities: A record of satisfactory performance in all prior and current employment as evidenced by positive employment references from previous and current employers. All employment references must address and indicate success in each one of the following areas:

Physical: Incumbent must have ability to frequently sit, stand, walk, bend, maintain balance, and reach for objects. Must have ability to occasionally kneel, crouch, and twist. Must have ability to frequently lift, push and pull up to 10lbs. Sensory requirements required for position include frequent far vision, near vision, depth perception, seeing fine details, hearing normal speech and overhead pages, and must have the ability for frequent telephone use. Incumbent must have frequent ability of simple and firm grasping fine manipulation and use of keyboards.
Mental: Must have ability to frequently cope with high level of stress, make decisions under high pressure, cope with anger/fear/hostility of others in a calm way, manage altercations, concentrate, handle a high degree of flexibility, handle multiple priorities in stressful situation, work alone, demonstrate high degree of patience, adapt to shift work, and work in areas that are close and crowded. Must frequently accept flexible schedule to meet unit needs.
Environmental: May be exposed to infectious diseases for a prolonged amount of time, frequent exposure to loud noises, and occasional exposure to chemical agents, and hazardous or moving equipment.

ResponsibilitiesESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Primary assignments include providing comprehensive care for adult patients with hematologic and oncologic conditions. The health care provided primarily involves patients who have common hematologic or oncologic ailments where the course of treatment is well known. The scope of health care delivered is typically determined by the availability of facilities or by referrals for patients requiring more specialized diagnostic or treatment services.Primary responsibility for the treatment and monitoring of adult patients with hematologic and oncologic diseases. Assists in the diagnosis of adult patients with hematologic and oncologic diseases, as clinically indicated.Conducts outpatient hematologic and oncologic clinics appropriate to the patient's underlying disease and treatment plan, including current symptoms. Reviews the patient's medication, diet, therapy course, adherence to management plan and modifies regimen as indicated. Appropriately instructs and counsels patients and family members as required.Upon request for consultation from hospitalists, interviews and examines hospitalized patients, reviews past medical history, and requests and/or performs diagnostic tests and examinations deemed necessary to obtain all possible information related to each case. Assists in making preliminary diagnoses. Directs, prescribes, provides treatment and/or arranges for specialized care or patient referral as required. Bases decisions upon information obtained, professional medical knowledge, skills, policies and procedures. Provides emergency care as required. Provides definitive management in all medical categories for cases that do not require referral.Oncology specialists collect medical histories and perform physical evaluations in addition to basic administrative duties, such as maintaining records, coordinating with other medical personnel, and managing the work of staff. They also perform a wide variety of diagnostic procedures to ascertain the condition of tissues and to detect cancer. Diagnostic procedures include scanning techniques, such as x-ray and magnetic resonance imaging, as well as surgical operations and biopsies.Prescribes and supervises the administration of drug treatments that may include, but are not limited to chemotherapy, immunotherapy, biologic therapy, hormone therapy, targeted drug therapy and other systemic therapies in an outpatient or inpatient setting for patients with early or advanced stage cancers that affect the organs, muscles, bones or connective tissues. Monitors patients for commonly known side effects and complications of treatment.Prepares appropriate medical records for all patients seen to assure the accumulation and organization of all pertinent clinical data needed to provide comprehensive medical care. Communicates with patients' primary care provider, other physicians, hospitals, and other individuals and facilities as needed.Refers patients to appropriate contracted medical or other government facilities, providing full clinical information for care and diagnostic procedures that cannot be adequately provided here. Coordinates and integrates information obtained into the ongoing Health Care Program at TCRHCC and assures the provision of timely follow-up care as required.Ensure proper PPE is always worn while on duty including but not limited to, face mask, gloves, gown, isolation gown, NIOSH-approved N95 filtering facepiece respirator or higher, if available), and eye or face shield.Complete all donning and doffing tasks in a safe acceptable method and discard of used PPE accordingly. (see CDC website for most current updates).Complete task training for all routine cleaning and decontamination processes for all surfaces contaminated by a communicable disease to ensure a high level of patient, visitor, employee, and external customer satisfaction.Completes all patient care documentation in the electronic health record entries accurately and in real-time.Participates in departmental workflow and or testing teams as related to electronic health record or other project initiatives.Works closely with allied health professionals (i.e., Community Health Nurse, Social Workers, Health Educator, etc.) to utilize and coordinate the services of other health care professionals in the management of the patient's care related to hematologic or oncologic disease.
