Position Purpose Accountable for the development and management of nursing leadership within the north campus oncology medical-surgical units.
Works with the Vice President, Patient Care Services in establishing standards of nursing practice for hospital-wide use and then takes lead accountability in assuring that they are implemented, measured, and continuously improved.
Assists in the management of resources, strategic planning and development of policies and procedures which ensure congruence with the mission and vision of the organization.
This individual will work closely with the Physician Partners of the Oncology Program and Internal Medicine Departments to develop the oncology program with nursing collaboration.
The director will work in connection with the Accreditation and Business Development to further refine and grow the Oncology Program of the System.
Key Job Activities Directs the activities of Nursing Leadership in the oncology medical-surgical units consistent with the mission of the hospital.
Advances nursing practice through excellence in clinical care, education and research, program development, growth of patient care services or compression of services based on market and organizational need, continuous improvement, fiscal oversight, and management of capital and human resources.Acts as a coach and mentor to Nursing Leadership.
Takes direct accountability for the development and performance of all direct reports.
Assures that effective coaching and mentoring is being provided to the Nurse Managers, Clinical Care Coordinators and Nursing Supervisors.
Assures that appropriate support is in place for coaching, mentoring and development of Educators and Nursing Staff.
Communicates effectively with all levels of nurses, physicians, and other health care professionals both orally and in writing.Actively involved in creating a professional practice environment that encourages recruitment and retention of staff in the nursing department.
Assists in providing leadership to nurse caregivers that will engage their support, create ownership of goals, and have them actively participate in decisions that impact their practice.Directs the development of individual cost centers, operational and capital budgets, and negotiates for resources considering the current fiscal and reimbursement environment.
Monitors productivity and assesses divisional performance in meeting productivity standards.
Monitors and evaluates budgetary activity of labor and non-labor expenses.Leads nursing in planning, developing and implementing clinical programs to optimize patient care.
The director works jointly with administrators and clinicians across the organization to build a cohesive, focused and dedicated inter-professional leadership and clinical team to accomplish the strategic vision and imperatives.Participates and leads the nursing team in developing hospital-wide patient care programs, policies, and procedures that describe how nursing care needs of patients are addressed, evaluated, and met and are aligned with the overall strategic direction, mission, and vision of the organization.Develops nursing strategic plan in collaboration with CNO, Vice President of Patient Care Services, Nursing Leadership and Shared Governance leaders.
Manages implementation of core strategies in the hospital environment and serves as a leader for supporting and successfully managing change to meet the requirements of a rapidly evolving healthcare environment.Assesses the overall performance of hospital-based nursing care, nursing staff engagement and patient engagement and outcomes.
Drives a culture of continuous performance improvement, shared governance, and staff engagement.Takes executive accountability for regulatory compliance, and adherence to policy and procedure within all areas of responsibility.
Performs other duties as assigned Education and Work Experience Bachelor's degree in NursingMaster's degree in Nursing, Health Care Administration, Business Administration, or related field preferredFive (5) years of staff nurse experience in acuteMinimum of five (5) years of progressive management experience in acute care setting, ten (10) years preferredTwo (2) years of oncology management Knowledge and Skills Knowledge of Illinois Nurse Practice ActKnowledge of acuity staffing modelsStrong clinical and business acumen; able to make critical decisionsCaring attitude towards the staff and their emotional well-beingVisible leader not afraid to walk to halls while visiting with staff and patients.Strong and transparent communicatorProven ability to build relationships with physicians, staff and patientsSelf-starter who has a passion and eye for quality outcomes and improving patient experienceStrategic but also willing to roll-up their sleeves when the need arises Certifications/Licenses Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse is required, issued by the IL State Board of Nursing Workplace Conditions: PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Registry (per diem) Caregivers are caregivers who work less than 1,000 hours in a calendar year.
Registry caregivers are employees of Sinai Health System but are typically on an as needed basis.
These caregivers may be called upon to cover full-time or part-time caregivers during PTO events or sick leave as well as to provide supplemental coverage.
Registry Caregivers are not eligible for Sinai's benefit programs with the exception for Sick-C, PPO Medical Plan, Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and non-match eligible contribution to the Sinai Health System Consolidated 403(b) retirement savings plan.
