Summary Peacham Afterschool Learning is seeking a One on One paraprofessional to help support students within our afterschool program with everyday functions. We are looking for a skilled and caring individual to provide intensive support in the area's multi-layered curriculum or communication, behavior management, and daily life activities across the childcare setting. This position consists of working directly with our afterschool age children. Candidates will be advocates of inclusive education, problem-solvers, strong collaborators, and positive team members. This individual will have the ability to promote child growth, foster independence, and a willingness to learn as these are essential. This individual should have experience working with school age children and experience facilitating 1:1 or small group instruction in social skills.
Duties Duties include but are not limited to, assisting the teacher in preparing and adapting lessons and activities, working with students individually and in small groups, maintaining a clean and healthy classroom environment, and assisting the teacher in ensuring that childcare license regulations are met and maintained. Above all candidates need to have a passion for education and a love of young children. The candidate will assist the Afterschool Director in creating exciting, educational and fun learning environment to include the needs of all learners.
Requirements The ability to take frequent walks, use hands and fingers, handle objects, tools or controls, talk to and hear voices at many levels. May also be required to kneel, bend, squat or crawl.Excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.A strong understanding of child development.Training/certification requirements: As per center policy, all employees must complete a minimum of 50 hours of professional development yearly, maintain current 1st aid and CPR certification, and complete the following training:VT orientation trainingMandated reportingMedication administrationBasic specialized careAll guidelines and policies set in the staff handbook must also be followed, including being familiar with the Child Care Licensing Regulations set forth by the state of Vermont. All employees must be able to pass a background records check and fingerprint check.Nice To Haves Experience working as a paraprofessional or one on one and in small groups with children who need support with behavioral management and self-regulation.
