Sign-On Bonus $1000.00 This position reports to the Technical Services Process Development Engineer.
This position is located in Aurora, North Carolina, U.S.A. and is not available for remote work.
What you will do: The Process Development Technicians work with a team of senior engineers, chemists, and plant site personnel to implement and validate research studies for new site processes, as well as troubleshoot existing process issues for operational groups across the site.Perform all job duties in a safe and conscientious manner, striving to prevent injuries by following all MSHA and OSHA regulations, as well as Nutrien site safety policies, procedures, and guidelines.Serve as a safety leader and coach for the Technical Services Department, upholding Nutrien core values and site safety culture.Conduct monthly departmental safety inspections and meetings for such items as: fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, eyewash stations, EBA's, and fall protection, including monthly inspection for items like air compressors and pH control instruments; document findings on inspection forms.Reinforce hazard identification, encouraging stop work procedures when hazards arise and assisting team members in hazard mitigation.Operate R&D pilot plant studies and experimental pilot plant studies using pumps, agitators, heaters, coolers, and reagents to discover more efficient methods to improve or develop new plant processes.Provide technical support and assistance to chemists and engineers by conducting experiments on products, processes, and systems.Develop programs for sampling and analysis by verifying quality standards of raw materials, chemicals, and products.Evaluate chemical equipment and processes to identify ways to optimize performance or ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations.Adjust controls to regulate temperature, pressures, feeds, and flows of liquids or gases, and times of prescribed reactions, according to knowledge of the equipment and processes.Inspect equipment or units to detect leaks and malfunctions by shutting equipment down if necessary and correcting malfunctions.Perform minor repairs and maintain equipment, using hand tools such as grease guns, wrenches, and electric drills to complete repairs.Work in teams and collaborate to develop and implement chemical processing improvements.Record operational data in operator's daily logbook; then input data into an Excel worksheet for supervisor review.Knowledge of using LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System) for logging, retrieving, and analyzing laboratory samples data to assist R&D projects.Prepare chemical solutions by following standardized formulas or developing experimental formulas to optimize desired results based on customer specifications or plant needs.Package process additives for customers.Obtain samples and have samples shipped to potential customers.Ability/Willingness to maneuver raw materials using a forklift or pallet jack for 5 gal, 15 gal, 55 gal, or 275 gal containers.Make the monthly composites of shipped products and submit composites to the laboratory for analysis.Complete loading inspections of Morehead City Port facility and transport vessels to ensure quality standards are met for product shipments; effectively communicate deficiencies to port staff and site management team.Familiarity with Standard Lab safety, PPE, SDS, and chemical hygiene practices.Order and inventory materials to maintain supplies in process development laboratory and pilot plants by using the Oracle/EAM system to input and complete purchase requisitions.Write Standard Operating Procedures for new processes by following the SOP outline and review details with team members and supervisor.Write technical reports and prepare graphs, charts, and figures to document experimental results and effectively communicate results to both site and off-site personnel.What you will bring: High School diploma or equivalent and 3-5 years of relevant chemical processing experience is required.Associates degree or bachelor's degree in Physical Science (Chemistry) with 2-3 years of relevant experience preferred.Exceptional cognitive skills as well as interpersonal skills to guide Laboratory processes.Initiative is an important work style and requires a willingness to take on responsibilities.Learning the details in all aspects of Standard Operating Procedures, Methods, Safety, and Environmental procedures, production, and regulations are necessary.Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential.Math skills are very important for this position.The National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC) testing is required for all hourly applicants of Nutrien. Applicants must complete this test and meet a minimum of 4 in Graphic Literacy, 5 on Applied Mathematics, and 5 on Workplace Documents in order to be considered eligible for employment with Nutrien.The National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC) must be uploaded with your resume during your application to be considered eligible for employment with Nutrien.
