Ophthalmic Technician

Performs ophthalmic duties and exams. Maintains equipment and supplies. Trains technicians and assists in the management and coordination of daily operations to ensure a smooth and efficient patient flow. Performs special testing as requested by the physician. Performs general clerical functions.
Duties and Responsibilities:
* Promptly and professionally assists the physician in patient care
* Perform technical workups, patient interviews, document medical history, perform special testing, demonstrate low vision devices
* Efficiently and accurately interviews patients and documents histories
* Accurately performs: Visual acuity, lensometry, Auto-refraction, Contrast Sensitivity, Color Vision, Pupils, EOMs, Perimetry (Goldmann, MAIA), and other tests as required
* Communicate with patients regarding follow-up care, changes in schedule, changes/new symptoms, low vision device usage, paperwork provided by patient
* Assist with charting and patient letters/referral paperwork
* Demonstrates flexibility in job assignment
* Understands and utilizes proper sterile techniques/Maintains and cleans ophthalmic instruments
* Returns phone calls to patients, organizations (ADRS, AIDB, SSA, etc), and opticals
* Maintains patients' confidentiality
* Performs other duties as assigned
Salary Range: $15.00 - $21.00
High School diploma or GED and two (2) years of related experience required. Currently certified as a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) by the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology preferred.
Preferred:
* Good understanding of ophthalmic practice and patient care
* Ability to communicate effectively with staff, physicians, patients, and public.
* Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
* Ability to collect data and maintain accurate records.
* Ability to operate various types of medical/testing/office equipment
* Knowledge and ability to demonstrate various types of low vision devices
* Working knowledge of eye anatomy, disease, symptoms, and ocular medications
* Knowledge of visual field testing (Goldmann) and microperimetry (MAIA), or readiness to learn above testing
* Ability to work with other to meet the needs of the CLVR in accomplishing practice goals
