About Us
The Public Safety Officers' Benefits (PSOB) Program assists in the recruitment and retention of qualified public safety officers across America. Established in 1976, we process over 1,000 applications annually, providing crucial death, disability, and educational assistance benefits to eligible public safety officers and their families.
Position Overview
We seek an experienced Paralegal Specialist II to support the PSOB Program's mission. This role requires detailed analysis of benefits claims and collaboration with PSOB Senior Benefits Specialists, Benefits Specialists, and the PSOB Director in processing approximately 750 death applications, 150 disability applications, and 600 educational assistance claims annually.

100% Remote position (home-based)
Must reside within the United States
Must maintain appropriate home office setup

\n$72,134 - $80,043 a year
Core Responsibilities
Review and analyze new PSOB death and disability claims within specified timeframes
Document initial reviews in PSOB 2.0 Portal on day of review
Conduct meetings with PSOB Director/Specialist within three working days of file receipt
Analyze supporting evidence for cases involving fatal heart attacks, strokes, and vascular ruptures
Track and process cases at Hearing Officer and BJA Director levels
Capture, organize, and report PSOB data and metrics
Perform weekly review of new PSOB claim information
Required Qualifications
Education:
Paralegal Certificate OR Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution
Legal emphasis preferred
Experience:
Minimum two (2) years of paralegal experience
Citizenship & Residency:
U.S. Citizenship or legal permanent residence
Must meet DOJ Residency Requirement: For three of the five years immediately prior to applying, must have:
Resided in the United States, OR
Worked for the U.S. overseas in Federal or military capacity, OR
Been a dependent of Federal/military employee serving overseas
Security Requirements
Must pass Minimum Background Investigation (MBI)
Must qualify for Public Trust Position clearance
Must maintain security clearance throughout employment
Work Schedule
Monday through Friday
Operating hours: 6:30 AM - 6:30 PM Eastern Time
8-10 hour workday
Flexible scheduling available after 90-day probationary period
