JOB SUMMARY :
The Public Health program at Ohio Wesleyan University is seeking applicants for a part-time faculty position to develop and teach one section of PUBH 250 (Epidemiology) for the Fall 2024 semester. This course provides an introduction to the evidence-based study of the distribution and determinants of health-related events, including infectious and chronic diseases, environmental events and conditions, health behaviors, and other health risk factors. Upon completion of the course, students will be able to apply epidemiologic methods to current public health issues and trends. We are especially interested in candidates committed to excellent undergraduate teaching and who can help develop an Epidemiology course that will be an essential part of the undergraduate public health degree at OWU, and will serve undergraduates of all experience levels and from diverse backgrounds, including those who are traditionally underrepresented.
The part-time faculty member will be compensated for course development, as well as teaching the course. Relative to teaching, the faculty member will be responsible for conducting all instructional duties of the course, including on-campus teaching, implementation and delivery of assignments and projects, grading and outcomes assessment, maintaining communication with students via email and the campus learning management system, and coordinating all activities with the director(s) of the public health program.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Course Development
Developing course objectives that fit within the public health program objectives, and that are appropriate for an undergraduate epidemiology course Identifying appropriate course materials, including readings, videos, and other instructional resources Developing a syllabus and course calendar/outline Developing student assessments, including quizzes, tests, assignments, and projects Developing rubrics for the above student assessments Teaching
On-campus teaching during the allotted course meeting time Facilitating student dialogue and engagement in course content Delivering and providing prompt evaluation of student assignments and projects Delivering and providing prompt evaluation of tests, quizzes, and any other assessments Maintaining regular communication with students via email and the learning management system Maintaining regular communication with the public health program director(s) QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates should have a master's degree and/or an earned doctorate in biostatistics, epidemiology, other public health specialization, with an emphasis on epidemiology, biostatistics, and data analyses. Experience with public health data and a commitment to undergraduate instruction are highly valued.
