Part Time Model Shop Technician

POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Model Shop Technician is responsible for helping to oversee the model shop and digital fabrication lab.
Technician assists in the training of students, staff, and faculty in the safe and effective use of model shop tools, equipment, and machinery.
Position will consistently work up to 21 hours per week.
Saturday and Sunday from 12:00PM-7:00pm.
Additional hours may be worked as needed.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
* Must be able to work Evenings, Saturday and Sunday.
* Provide service and observe the needs of students and faculty utilizing the facility in the fulfillment of their curricular purpose.
* Assist in routine and unanticipated maintenance of shop tools and equipment.
* Assist in the supervision of work study students.
* Assist in safety programs to ensure the proper use of tools, equipment, and machinery.
* Maintain a clean and effective work space.
* Ensure OSHA safety regulations are being observed and maintained.
* Other duties as assigned and needed.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
* One to three years of experience in a variety of model making, woodworking and art processes.
Professional spray booth experience preferred.
* Computer proficiency necessary, 3D CAD and Laser Cutter experience preferred.
* Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
* Aptitude for learning new skills and techniques.
* Able to work effectively with a diverse student and faculty populace of varying abilities.
* Educational environment experience preferred.
* Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This job operates in a professional office and college campus environment.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
The employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to maintain a stationary position, use a computer and other office equipment, and communicate effectively in person, by phone, and virtually.
Frequent interaction with others, including staff, faculty, students and third parties is required.
The employee may occasionally be required to move files or other objects weighing up to 25 pounds, including from low and high places.
The ability to move around within the office and between buildings on campus, attend off-site meetings and events, and travel between Ford Campus site to Taubman Center site are required.
