About the Role The Payroll & Benefits Contractor will play a critical role in managing and administering payroll, employee benefits, and state registration processes across North America. The ideal candidate will have experience with multi-state payroll operations, US employee benefits programs, and be proficient in handling state-specific regulatory compliance. This position ensures that payroll is processed accurately and on time, while also providing support and guidance on benefits enrollment, compliance, and reporting. You may also support HR and Finance Systems. This position is roughly 20 hours per week. \n What You'll Do Payroll Administration:Process bi-weekly or semi-monthly payroll for employees across multiple states using RipplingEnsure accurate and timely calculation of wages, bonuses, commissions, and deductionsHandle payroll-related inquiries, discrepancies, and issues in a timely and professional mannerStay updated on federal, state, and local payroll tax laws and ensure compliance with all regulationsCoordinate with finance for accurate reporting and reconciling payroll dataBenefits Management:Administer employee benefits programs, including health, dental, vision, life insurance, 401(k), FSA/HSA, and other ancillary benefitsConduct benefits orientation and educate employees on benefit offerings and enrollment processesManage annual open enrollment and ongoing benefits enrollments/changes throughout the yearServe as the primary point of contact for benefits providers, handling inquiries and resolving issuesEnsure benefits programs are compliant with applicable laws, including ACA, ERISA, COBRA, HIPAA, etcSupport the Stock Option Equity administration in CartaManage employee leave of absence process in tandem with our external partnersState Registrations & Compliance:Manage and ensure compliance with state and local registrations and tax filings in all applicable statesKeep up to date with new state requirements and ensure timely registration when expanding into new statesMaintain accurate records for all state registrations, including unemployment insurance and workers' compensationPeople Team Support:Assist with audits, including 401(k) and workers' compensation auditsProvide payroll and benefits data reports to management as neededSupport HR team in other areas, such as leave administration, compensation, and employee relations What You Bring Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Finance, Business Administration, or related field (preferred)3-5 years of experience in payroll administration, benefits management, and multi-state complianceStrong knowledge of federal and state payroll laws and regulations.Proficiency with payroll systems (e.g., ADP, Gusto, Paycom) and benefits platformsExperience with US-based benefits administration, including health plans, 401(k), and FSA/HSAExcellent attention to detail and ability to handle sensitive and confidential informationStrong communication and problem-solving skillsAbility to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environmentPreferred Skills:Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) is a plus.Experience with state registrations and multi-state payroll compliance.Familiarity with HRIS systems and data reporting.
