Position SummaryThe NYU Student Health Center (SHC) Specialty Unit is seeking a part-time Gastroenterologist to provide medical consultation for 7-14 hours per week for our population of more than 50,000 NYU undergraduates and graduate students. Working on-site with a dedicated RN/LPN team, the specialist would see students on referral from SHC providers in primary care, travel medicine, and women's health. Common GI diagnoses include IBS and IBD, and many students present with undifferentiated symptoms. On-site testing and procedures include blood draws, anoscopy, and H pylori breath-testing. Plain films can be done on-site. Other imaging, breath-testing, and EGDs are arranged by referral to external sites under the students' insurances. Additional on-site specialists include nutrition, endocrinology, dermatology, and neurology, among others. Working with a motivated and diverse student population is rewarding, and the team works well together to assure the best service in support of students' academic success.
QualificationsRequired Education: M.D. or D.O. degree, NY State medical license, Board Certified or Board Eligible in either Internal Medicine, Med/Peds, or Family Medicine with subspecialty certification. BLS certification.
Required Experience: 2 years clinical experience as a Physician. Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) registration, eligibility to obtain medical liability insurance, and approval for clinical privileges by the Credentials Committee.
Preferred Experience: Experience working in a multispecialty and/or Student Health practice setting.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Excellent interpersonal, analytical, problem-solving, and written and verbal communication skills. Ability to interact with individuals at all levels.
