Per Diem Radiographer/X-Ray Technologist

SUMMARY: Must be an external candidate to be eligible to apply.
Eligibility A per diem employee must meet the following requirements.
If there are no shifts offered on any given month, the employee will not be penalized. Requirements: Employee must work a minimum of 16 hours/month Employee must pick up at least 1 weekend shift/month Employee must work at least 1 "holiday" weekend shift per year Employee must not refuse more than 2 shifts/month The practice of radiography is performed by a segment of health care professionals responsible for the administration of ionizing radiation to humans for diagnostic purposes.
Under the direction of the lead technologist and/or site manager a radiographer/ X-Ray Technologist performs radiographic procedures and related techniques producing images at the request of and for interpretation by licensed healthcare professionals.
They interact effectively and professionally with patients, referring physicians and their staffs and fellow employees while maintaining the best possible patient workflow and throughput at all times.
They perform and ensure appropriate quality control, perform related tasks such as assisting patients, maintaining and ordering appropriate levels of supplies, maintaining cleanliness of work areas and performing routine clerical functions.


PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Demonstrate an understanding of human anatomy, physiology, pathology and medical terminology.
Maintain a high degree of accuracy in radiographic positioning and exposure technique.
Independently perform or assist in the completion of radiographic procedures.
Possess, utilize and maintain knowledge of radiation protection and safety.
Applies principles of ALARA to minimize exposure to patient, self and others.
Provides and ensures proper use of protection to unaffected areas of the body from radiation exposure utilizing lead shields in accordance with recognized safety standards.
Receives and greets patient, obtains necessary medical history and instructs and informs patient about the procedure.
Corroborates patient's clinical history with procedure, ensuring information is documented for use by the radiologist.
Receives, relays and documents verbal, written or electronic orders in the patient's medical record.
Reviews all elements of orders for accuracy and completeness.
Ensures that images, examination requisitions and other related records are properly completed to ensure correct patient identification, statistical and billing information.
Ensures that additional studies are authorized by the referring physician's office and properly documented.
Assumes responsibility for patient's needs during procedures.
Handles patients in a caring, courteous and professional manner at all times.
Evaluates patient's ability to tolerate requested exam(s).
Identifies and manages emergency situations.
Evaluates images for technical quality, coordinating and communicating with the radiologist and/ referring physician, as needed.
Assists the radiologist when required.
Educates and monitors students and other health care providers.
Performs quality control procedures when required and ensures proper operation of equipment at all times.
Operates equipment according to specific/recognized procedures and in conformance with established routines and techniques.
Reviews images to ensure acceptable quality and completeness for diagnostic purposes.
Responsible for immediately reporting any concerns relating to the equipment operation.
Responsible for maintaining complete and organized records of repairs requested and made on all equipment.
Informs Lead Technologist when supplies are low, and orders as needed to ensure continuous/efficient operation of the unit.
Assists other technologists as needed.
Must possess the willingness and ability to cross train in other modalities.
Coordinates with and volunteers' assistance to reception and other personnel in areas outside primary areas of responsibility (i.e.
patient registration, answering telephones, retrieving files, file relocations etc.)
whenever lulls in technical duties occur.
Maintain confidentiality of patient information at all times.
Available as scheduled to provide technologist duties at specified times and places assigned.
Additional duties as assigned.
BASIC KNOWLEDGE: Physical dexterity and strength to operate all types of X-rays and related equipment, push portable equipment, properly position patients and handling of patient images and files.
Conceptual ability to determine means of providing requested studies based on the specifics of each case.
Interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients who may be under physical and/or emotional stress, referring physicians and staff, the radiologist, fellow employees, suppliers and service representatives and any and all others who they come in contact with during the course of the business day.
Analytical skills to compile and interpret data.
Demonstrated knowledge and skill necessary to provide proper patient care.
Demonstrated knowledge and skills to perform exams as outlined by governing bodies and RIMI protocol.
EXPERIENCE: High school degree plus completion of a course of study in Radiologic Technology from an accredited program recognized by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and successful completion of the national certification exam.
Certification must be completed within 6 months of date of hire.
Must remain in good standing with ARRT and maintain 24 credits per 2-year cycle with 1 credit being in radiation protection.
Obtain and maintain additional accreditation and/or certifications(s) required by State, Federal Government and RIMI within areas of expertise and to personally maintain the highest professional recognition levels available.
Must have current license for radiologic technologist from Rhode Island Department of Health.
Submit a copy of yearly CME reports to management.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Walks and stands intermittently throughout the day.
May lift and position patients and supplies up to 50 pounds.
Ability to move patients from scanner table and transport patients in wheelchairs and/or stretchers.
Ability to crouch, reach and lift to allow appropriate manipulation positioning and placement of ancillary equipment.
