Job Responsibilities and Duties of Litigation Attorney
Represent clients in civil litigation cases, including trials and appeals.
Conduct legal research and analysis to support litigation strategy.
Draft legal documents, including pleadings, motions, and briefs.
Negotiate settlements and participate in alternative dispute resolution processes.
Prepare for and attend court hearings, depositions, and other legal proceedings.
Manage and prioritize multiple cases and deadlines effectively.
Execute legal research using Westlaw or Lexis-Nexis.
Legal administrative tasks, such as managing case files and client communications.
Conducting thorough legal research to support case strategies.
Litigating cases in both state and federal courts.
Drafting persuasive legal documents, including motions, briefs, and memoranda.
Assist Firm in establishing and managing the litigation department, including, but not limited to:
Docket review of all cases in the litigation department.
Directly managing all associate attorneys and other direct reports within the litigation department.
Designing and optimizing our litigation department workflow and case management system as it relates to the litigation process.
Making final settlement decisions on all litigation cases.
Consulting, as needed, on pre-litigation files.
This should include, but may not be limited to:
Reviewing high-limit pre-litigation files for early filing of cases.
Investigations needed.
Identifying cases that should be moved to the litigation team for case management.
Answering specific questions for the pre-litigation team that require attorney input/opinion.
Attend leadership meetings as a representative for the litigation team, as needed.
Qualifications of Litigation Attorney
Currently licensed to practice law in Texas;
5 years of litigation experience;
Trial and/or arbitration experience;
Knowledge of trial and hearing procedures including the Texas Rules of Civil Procedure;
Critical thinking skills with the ability to problem solve, be creative, use discretion, ask questions when necessary and be detail oriented;
Exceptional writing skills;
Ability to handle their own caseload;
A high degree of initiative and mature judgment;
Federal Court experience (preferably);
Personal injury experience (required);
Competency in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and ability to learn new software;
Must submit to employee screening per firm's policies;
Compensation depends on experience and credentials.
Skills & Requirements:
Litigation experience is required for this role.
Leadership skills are required.
Must be organized and accountable.
Excellent research and writing skills are required.
Must be familiar with reading medical reports and bills.
The ideal candidate will have experience with serious injury cases.
Bilingual in Spanish a plus.
