Click Here to view our program Website Program Description The Postgraduate Year Two Oncology Pharmacy Residency at Seattle Children's is a one-year ASHP accredited training program that provides training in the field of oncology with a focus on pediatrics. Experience is gained in general hematology / oncology, stem cell transplantation and ambulatory care. Opportunities to explore additional areas of interest are available through electives both on and off site. Seattle Children's has 407 licensed beds with 48 Cancer Care Unit beds, over 15,500 annual inpatient admissions, and more than 370,000 ambulatory visits in 2021. Our comprehensive, multidisciplinary team of pediatric cancer experts treats more than 250 newly diagnosed patients with cancer every year and provides follow-up care to more than 12,700 children and adolescents.
Program Purpose PGY2 pharmacy residency programs build on Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and PGY1 pharmacy residency programs to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists in specialized areas of practice. PGY2 residencies provide residents with opportunities to function independently as practitioners by conceptualizing and integrating accumulated experience and knowledge and incorporating both into the provision of patient care or other advanced practice settings. Residents who successfully complete an accredited PGY2 pharmacy residency are prepared for advanced patient care, academic, or other specialized positions, along with board certification, if available.
Practice Areas Orientation/Training: 3-4 weeksHematology/Oncology Inpatient: 18 weeks (Split between solid and liquid tumor teams)Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation Inpatient: 12 weeksAmbulatory Care (oncology and bone marrow transplant): 5-6 weeksDrug Information: LongitudinalProject Time: 4 weeks dividedInvestigation Drug Services- Hematology Oncology Specific: 3-4 weeksElective Rotations (1 rotation): 3-4 weeks (Antimicrobial Stewardship, Medication Safety, Adult Oncology, Other elective experiences may be developed based on resident interest and preceptor availability)Pharmacy Practice Residency Requirements Complete and present a research project at the Hematology Oncology Pharmacy Association (HOPA) annual meeting and prepare a manuscript.Participate in teaching activities with students.Present a 1-hour continuing education on an oncology topic.Prepare and present drug monographs for the Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee as assigned.Complete parenteral nutrition, pharmacokinetic and anticoagulation competencies.Staff 24 hours per month on average (weekends and holidays), every 3rd weekend.Complete list of requirements available during interview.Stipends and Benefits Residents receive an annual stipend with benefits including an excellent healthcare benefit package, 10 days of vacation/holiday leave, and 5 days of sick leave. In addition, residents receive educational leave to attend and participate in various pharmacy conferences, including but not limited to the ASHP Midyear Clinical meeting in December and an appropriate specialty conference as determined by the RPD. Reimbursement for conference attendance will be addressed on a year-by-year basis.
Qualifications of the Applicant Selected applicants will be invited for a virtual interview with Seattle Children's in January or February. The applicant must meet the following general requirements:
Graduates of an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) accredited degree program (or one in process of pursuing accreditation) or have a Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Equivalency Committee (FPGEC) certificate from the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP).Successful completion of an ASHP accredited PGY1 Residency.PPS Midyear interview- or similar meeting from Seattle Children's Hospital RPD.Licensed or eligible for licensure in the State of Washington.Participate in the ASHP Pharmacy Resident Matching Program (http://www.natmatch.com/ashprmp).Application Materials submitted through PhORCAS (https://portal.phorcas.org/).
