This is a professional position involving licensed pharmaceutical duties.
The work is performed independently and involves such duties as checking prescription requests and preparing and dispensing prescription drugs.
The pharmacist also provides advice to administrators, physicians, nurses and other professionals regarding pharmaceutical practices, drug reactions and drug literature.
Supervision is received through an administrator or program director.
Performs related work as required.
IMPORTANT DETAILS: This is a contract position The role requires the incumbent to be ON CALL Monday - Friday, during the hours of 7:00am-3:00pm, and/or 3:00pm-11:00pm, depending on the coverage needs of the department The reporting locations for this role are Yaphank and Riverhead KEY ELEMENTS OF THE ROLE: Prepares and dispenses medically authorized prescription drugs; Reviews prescriptions for drugs as to appropriateness for dispensing to patients; May review medical and surgical equipment prescriptions; Maintains contact with pharmaceutical supply companies, pharmacists and health care institutions to maintain current information; Reviews patient medical records and medication profiles; Interprets federal, state and local regulations regarding pharmaceutical services and drug distribution; Serves as a consultant to the administrator, program director, physicians, dentists and other professionals on pharmaceutical matters; Maintains, as required, drug inventories including, as necessary, documentation of all narcotics and other controlled substances; Maintains all records as mandated by federal, state, and local regulations and mandates.
Salary: $75/HR

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from a New York State or Regionally accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy OR Clinical Doctorate Degree (Pharm D).
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
At the time of appointment and during employment in this title, candidates must possess a Pharmacist License issued by the New York State Department of Education.
ADDITIONAL POSITION DETAILS: Comprehensive knowledge of pharmacy and pharmacology Thorough knowledge of drug interactions and symptoms of adverse reactions Good knowledge of current federal, state, and local regulations regarding drug distribution Knowledge of current drug treatment programs, such as methadone treatment Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing Ability to establish effective working relationships with individuals in the medical, health and drug fields Ability to maintain an orderly record of prescriptions and an accurate drug inventory Ability to work independently in a professional manner Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
