The Philanthropy Director is primarily responsible for serving as a major gift fundraiser. Success in this role includes maximizing major gifts for individuals, businesses, and foundations giving gifts of $10,000 or more, while also cultivating and providing face-to-face activities that yield the best results, including nurturing donor prospects to facilitate growth in capacity.
This position is expected to function effectively with limited supervision as a part of both the branch and Donor Engagement teams while following the guidelines given on procedures, along with agency, federal, and state regulatory requirements and ethical fundraising best practices.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Responsible for a revenue target of raising $500,000 - $1,000,000 through private contributions, annual and multi-year commitments, foundations, and gift planning;Effectively raise funds that support the work of Bethany Christian Services to donors in an assigned portfolio;Plan and implement a successful portfolio management strategy to ensure the assigned donors receive appropriate cultivation and stewardship annually;Develop long-term relationships through personal interactions with donors on the assigned account list and strive to connect donor interests with Bethany's vision, mission, and ministry;Manage an effective pipeline of donor prospects, both within and outside the current active donor file portfolio to meet revenue targets, while utilizing Microsoft Office products and Raiser's Edge technology to document contacts in a timely manner;Provide support and leadership to the branch and agency fundraising efforts and annual planning for the branch and region to ensure set goals are achieved;Develop local relationships with Bethany staff, board, and stakeholders;Collaboratively work with Branch Directors and other internal stakeholders on shared contribution revenue objectives;Network through current and lapsed donors to locate new giving prospects to secure major gifts;Arrange for major donors and those with a large sphere of influence to interact with the Bethany CEO/president, senior leadership, field staff, and domestic/international projects, when appropriate;Work with appropriate partners to set up donor-advised funds, stock gifts, wills, etc.;Represent Bethany in various settings, including speaking engagements directly related to major gift development to spread the word about Bethany's domestic and international ministry;Represent Bethany and its core values in all forms of communication;Attend and participate in professional development activities and core competency trainings, as necessary and assigned;Keep informed of organizational announcements, activities, and changes via regular reading of Bethany's SharePoint site and other corporate communication tools;Work collaboratively with team members;Effectively model Christ in both individual and corporate life; participate in devotions and Day of Prayer and daily live out Bethany's values;Complete other duties as assigned.QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's level degree in Business, Philanthropy/Fundraising, or related field of study from an accredited college;At least 3-5 years of experience in fundraising, sales, or donor engagement capacity with strong network connections in the respective region;Demonstrated ability to manage major donors, with success securing individual gifts of $10K+;Previous major gifts experience at another non-profit a plus;Strong local networks and surrounding areas preferred;Frequent evening and weekend work to accommodate donor schedules;Interests aligned with the mission of Bethany; experience in child/family welfare a plus;A commitment to the highest-level standards of professionalism and fundraising best practices;Must be reliable with time-sensitive deadlines and tasks;Exercise a high level of confidentiality and integrity;Computer skills sufficient to perform essential functions including knowledge of Microsoft Office suite;Must be 21 years old with a valid driver's license and at least 3 years driving experience in the U.S. to operate a vehicle on behalf of Bethany. Must also pass a Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) check and maintain a reliable vehicle with proof of adequate insurance coverage;Pass a criminal history screen, including state and local child protection agency registries;Subscription to and integration of the agency Statement of Faith and Mission Statement.Salary disclosure for residents of Colorado, Washington, California, Hawaii, Rhode Island, Washington D.C. & New York
