Job Description Nason Medical Center Description Conemaugh Nason Medical Center is seeking a full-time Phlebotomist for our on-site hospital laboratory. This position plays an intricate role in our patient's healthcare experience, requiring exceptional customer service skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Responsibilities include collecting and obtaining specimens for both outpatients and inpatients, then submitting them to the facility laboratory for processing. The phlebotomist may also be expected to travel to local long-term care facilities and physician offices to complete blood draws, specimen pick-ups, and drop off needed supplies. This position is expected to maintain an organized and clean work area and ensure there are adequate supplies. Strong computer skills are required to accurately enter laboratory orders.
Qualifications Essential Functions: Able to perform phlebotomy and blood gases for all age groups, including neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.Able to perform EKG's and recognize and alert respiratory therapy of abnormal or unusual tracings.Able to perform Occupational Health Urine drug tests and Breathalyzer testing, including correct completion of Chain of Custody and Alcohol forms per company policy.Accurate collection of samples.Correctly orders/registers patients in laboratory and hospital system.Correctly identifies patient using 2 indicators prior to collecting specimen.Meets collection time standards.Meets Blood Culture contamination rate.Proper pick-up and storage of specimens.Collection of swabs for flu and viral testing.Safely drives hospital vehicle and notifies maintenance of any vehicle problems.Provides excellent customer service to physician office and long-term care home staff, patients, hospital staff, physicians, and visitors.Demonstrates self-motivational skills and exhibits self-direction.Adheres to department policy in regard to customer satisfaction.Demonstrates accountability and professionalism.Completes mandatory annual in-service and annual competencies within mandated timeframes.Assumes responsibility for maintaining technical skills and professional expertise, i.e., phlebotomist certification, BLS, etc.Organizational Expectations: Demonstrates support of the mission, vision, values, goals, and general policies of Conemaugh Nason Medical Center.Complies with corporate compliance guidelines and requirements of federal, state, and local regulatory and accrediting agencies.Adheres to the standards of professional ethics and handles confidential information in strict conformance with departmental and Medical Center policies.Provides quality care and services consistent with Medical Center standards and participates in the Medical Center's Continuous Quality Improvement Program.Demonstrates flexibility and adaptability in response to unexpected changes in the workload, emergencies, staffing, and scheduling.Uses tact, sensitivity, sound judgment, and a professional attitude when relating with co-workers, patients, families, and visitors.Performs duties in a self-directed and cooperative manner with minimal need for supervision. Uses time constructively for maximum productivity.Treats all co-workers, patients, families, and visitors with consideration to their rights, cultural diversity, privacy, comfort, and emotional needs. Serves as a patient advocate and fosters a work culture of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.Attends all mandatory trainings and completes all required Life Talent education assignments within a timely manner. Keeps updated regarding Medical Center changes through meeting attendance and review of posted information; attends briefs, debriefs, and huddles.Abides by and references the Employee Handbook and other pertinent facility policies, including clinical, non-clinical, safety, and infection control.Job Requirements: Education/Licenses: High school diploma or equivalent required.Completion of phlebotomy training.Certification as phlebotomist preferred.Required Skills: Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgement, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.Detail oriented.Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.Competitive wage, retirement benefits, 401K, and onsite occupational health! $10,000 Sign-On Bonus!
