SAIC is seeking a talented and innovative Photonics Engineer to join our dynamic team in Bedford, IN. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and testing photonics-based devices and systems for a variety of applications. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in optics, lasers, and photonics, along with a passion for pushing the limits of optical technology.
This position is contingent upon contract award in Early 2025. This position is full time and can be worked remotely or on site in Bedford, IN. Relocation assistance will be considered on a case by case basis. Key Responsibilities: Design and simulate photonics devices and systems using software tools such as MATLAB, Lumerical, or COMSOL.Develop optical components and subsystems, including lasers, modulators, detectors, and optical amplifiers.Characterize and test optical devices and systems in laboratory environments.Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate photonics solutions into larger systems or products.Stay current with industry trends and advancements in photonics technology.Contribute to research and development projects aimed at pushing the boundaries of optical technology.Qualifications: Seven (7) years of experience & Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Optics or related field.Or PhD in the above and four (4) years of related experience.Strong background in optics, lasers, and photonics.Proficiency in optical design software tools such as Zemax, OpticStudio, or equivalent.Experience with optical modeling, simulation, and characterization.Hands-on experience with optical test and measurement equipment.Knowledge of semiconductor device physics and fabrication techniques is a plus.Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.Strong communication and teamwork abilities.Clearance: Must be a US Citizen and willing to obtain a Secret security clearance.
