Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Physician Assistant - Full Time Days 07:00 AM - 07:00 PM Flexible Shifts/Rotating Weekends - OR - NS. In this role, the successful candidate will provide quality professional cost-effective health care to all patients at LICH. At LICH, physician assistants (PAs) practice medicine under the supervision of a licensed physician fulfilling a broad range of medical services that would otherwise be provided by the physician. The PA shall be permitted to provide any service within his/her scope of training/skills delegated by the supervising physician or the patient's physician that has been approved by the Credentials Committee and is within the scope of practice of the physician.
Job Responsibilities: Introduces/identifies self as a physician assistantPerforms initial assessment/history and physical examinationOrders and interprets tests/results (lab, radiology, EKG, etc.) based on patient needDocuments care in the chart in accordance with Hospital policy & procedureFormulates and implements treatment planConsults with physician when required based on patient's conditionReassesses patientsOrders, applies, removes, and reapplies restraintsProvides emergency medical care including Code 64 managementTriages patients (ED only)Performs Trauma assessment/reassessment (Trauma Team only)Legibly documents in patient chart and departmental forms all pertinent patient information following departmental and Hospital policiesDocuments any patient or family education on the Hospital patient and family education formAll orders and entries dated and timedLevel of documentation matches severity of situationResults of tests ordered documentedProcedure notes completedFollow up/consultation with physician documentedVerbal/telephone orders signed, dated, and timed by end of shiftBilling forms completed fully and submitted (house only)Discharge instructions written and given (ED only)Explains procedure to patient/familyPerforms procedures following accepted standards of care (IVs, foley cath, NGT, CVL removal, etc.)Splinting technique (ED only)Assists in surgery (technique OR credentialed only)Performs CAT scan/MRI injectionsDemonstrates positive Service Excellence/customer satisfaction, positive attitude towards change, effective time management, positive communication skills, the ability to constructively give and accept feedback, and solid problem-solving skillsDemonstrates the medical, technical, and personal skills to assess, reassess & manage patientsKnows one's limitations and seeks help if neededDemonstrates the ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detailWorks as a team member in a multidisciplinary mannerMaintains knowledge of current trends and techniques in the field by reading appropriate journals, books, and other literature and attending related seminars, conferences, and the likeAbides by all federal and state laws, rules, and regulationsAnswers pages immediately unless busy using name and title (house only)Participates in performance assessment and improvement studiesMinimum Qualifications:
To qualify, you must have a Graduate of a PA program accredited by The Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant or its predecessor, Current NCCPA certification, Current New York State license as Registered Physician Assistant, Current BLS & ACLS documentation (From AHA only), Current Pediatric Life Support (PALS from AHA only). Requires the psychomotor skills including walking to perform examinations and procedures. The interpersonal and customer service skills necessary to communicate effectively with patients, their family members, physicians, nursing, and other Hospital personnel when exchanging patient status, care, and treatment information. Requires the ability to recognize and address the psychosocial needs of patients and their families and the ability and skills necessary to attend to special needs relating to the patient's age and diagnosis. The ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail for approximately seventy-five percent of work time for responsibilities such as providing patient care, operating and monitoring equipment, and recording data in patient charts. The ability to walk and stand for approximately seventy-five percent of work time and to lift, pull, push, and/or carry items such as equipment weighing up to twenty pounds or patients on stretchers for approximately twenty-five percent of work time when providing patient care.

Long Island Community Hospital provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $131,683.50 - $164,151.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
