Stellar Opportunity for Pediatric Orthopedic Surgeon to Lead Cerebral Palsy and Neuromotor Center at Prestigious Children's Hospital in Miami Nicklaus Children's Hospital, a 307-bed freestanding children's hospital and ACS-verified Level I trauma center, and Nicklaus Children's Pediatric Specialists (NCPS), the physician multispecialty group practice of Nicklaus Children's Health System, have an exceptional opportunity for an experienced Pediatric Orthopedic Surgeon with expertise in treating complex patients with neuromuscular disorders to serve as the Director of the Cerebral Palsy and Neuromotor Center.
This position is in partnership with the Neurosciences (Brain Institute) medical and surgical leadership. Our current team includes 12 orthopedic surgeons with subspecialties such as spine, orthopedic oncology, limb differences and length discrepancies, sports medicine, trauma, cerebral palsy, and neuromuscular disorders. We also have highly skilled physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurse coordinators, orthopedic technicians, athletic trainers, support staff, residents, and fellows. Our physicians perform approximately 1,600 surgical procedures annually, while the pediatric orthopedic surgery practice handles around 34,000 outpatient visits across multiple locations.
The Cerebral Palsy and Neuromotor Center promotes collaboration between the Orthopedic and Brain Institutes, leading a comprehensive, multidisciplinary program. This team includes experts in orthopedics, neurology, neurosurgery, plastic surgery, rehabilitation (PM&R), physical therapy, and developmental primary care. Together, they address a wide range of health issues, providing expert consultations, evaluations, advanced surgical interventions, and non-surgical therapies.
As Director of the Cerebral Palsy and Neuromotor Center, the chosen candidate will provide orthopedic medical and surgical leadership, overseeing clinical goals and activities. This role requires close collaboration with the administrative team to drive strategic growth, ensure operational efficiency, and maintain a high-quality patient experience. The Director will also partner with the Brain Institute's leadership on quality initiatives and foster a culture of professionalism and accountability. In conjunction with the Rehabilitation Services team, we are finalizing preparations for the Gait Analysis and Mobility Lab, which is expected to launch in Q1 2025. The candidate should have experience with gait and motion analysis.
This surgeon will work closely with the Chief and leadership of the Orthopedic, Sports Medicine & Spine Institute and Nicklaus Children's Hospital to drive strategic growth and further develop the program, ensuring the highest standards of clinical care for pediatric patients with cerebral palsy and neuromuscular disorders. The position involves maintaining an active clinical practice, expanding research activities, and representing Nicklaus Children's Hospital at local, regional, and national forums. The surgeon will also engage in community outreach initiatives to promote the program and its six pediatric orthopedic clinic locations in the tri-county area, with a 7th location opening in 2025.

Reflecting Nicklaus Children's unwavering commitment to pediatric healthcare, the hospital opened the new Kenneth C. Griffin Surgical Tower in September 2024. This five-story, 131,000-square-foot facility elevates the hospital's surgical capabilities, combining a patient-centered environment with cutting-edge technology. The Griffin Surgical Tower, located in the heart of the campus, features state-of-the-art operating rooms equipped with the latest technology and surgical teams.
Additionally, the Orthopedic, Sports Medicine & Spine Institute is preparing to relocate to a new 19,000-square-foot facility in early Spring, 2025. This new space includes 18 exam rooms, three cast rooms, two conference rooms, and an imaging suite featuring two x-ray machines and a state-of-the-art EOS imaging machine. This new institute space represents an exciting milestone, as all Orthopedic, Sports Medicine, and Spine services will now be housed in one central location on the main campus and facilitate a more seamless experience for families and patient care.

Job Summary The position is primarily a clinical position related to the diagnosis, treatment and clinical management of pediatric patients in a multidisciplinary environment that includes physicians, nurses, advanced practice providers, clinical scientists and social workers. The position offers exposure to a mix of general and high acuity pediatric patients. The position also includes teaching and supervision of medical residents and provides opportunities to participate in research and publishing.
Job Specific Duties Applies knowledge of growth and development in customer interactions and treatment. Continues to actively self-educate (i.e., reading journals, CME credits, NCH conferences, etc.). Coordinates and/or develops and delivers monthly inservices to meet staff and resident development needs. Coordinates follow-up of tests, lab studies, and patient follow-up phone calls. Directly provides clinical services to patients including, but not limited to: performing and recording history and physical examinations, recording and interpreting pertinent patient data, developing and documenting a treatment plan, writing routine orders for appropriate laboratory studies, x-rays and consultations, performing patient/parent teaching, assisting with patient follow-up, performing appropriate screenings, administering medications as required, ordering and/or performing therapeutic and diagnostic procedures as indicated by patient findings. Makes suggestions to Department Director and/or attending staff that may be beneficial to the improvement of the department. Participates in Performance Improvement, Research and Publishing. Participates in teaching of and is role model to medical students and residents. Participates in the call schedule as assigned. Qualifications Minimum Job Requirements Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.) from an accredited medical school Current state medical license and in good standing with medical board American Heart Association BLS - maintain active and in good standing throughout employment Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Exceptional clinical, research and teaching skills and have a commitment to academic pediatrics.
