Physician Coder Specialist

As a Medical Coder, you'll play a crucial role in accurately reviewing and coding professional services, such as evaluation and management, procedures, outpatient surgeries, and observation patient visits. You'll ensure adherence to Medicare, Medicaid, and third-party payer guidelines to guarantee precise reimbursement.
Key Responsibilities:
Coding Expertise: Assign ICD-10, CPT, and/or HCPCS codes meticulously, following established guidelines and regulations. Coding tasks may include professional surgical coding, hospital outpatient procedures, and diagnosis coding for observation patients.
Documentation Review: Maintain data integrity of patient records by thoroughly examining medical documentation and confirming its adequacy to support assigned codes.
Resource Support: Act as a knowledgeable resource, conducting research on patient accounts to address queries or rectify errors promptly.
Collaborative Work: Work closely with team members and various departments to achieve monthly departmental goals, such as DNFB, Pre-AR, Denials, and Claim Edits.
Communication: Communicate effectively with healthcare providers to seek clarification or request additional documentation when necessary.
Requirements:
Education: High School diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Education: Completion of an accredited American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA)/American Association of Professional Coders (AAPC) coding program with certification.
Experience: Minimum 1 year of coding experience.
Certifications: Preferred recognition by AHIMA or AAPC.
Skills and Abilities:
Proficiency in computer skills and data entry.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly and professionally.
Familiarity with Windows-style applications and specialized software.
In-depth knowledge of ICD-9-CM, ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS, and coding principles.
Exceptional decision-making, problem-solving, analytical, and quality management skills.
