JOB SUMMARY Physicians provide comprehensive care for the appropriate patient population including diagnosing and treating a wide variety of illnesses that can occur in any of the body systems. Physicians use a variety of diagnostic and therapeutic techniques to treat patients through medication and hospitalization. Responsible for meeting, assessing and diagnosing patients and providing them with healthcare services that embody the St. Luke's mission, The Patient Above All Else. Prescribes patients with appropriate procedures, medication, health regimens and lifestyle adjustments that will contribute to their recovery from diagnosed health issues, prevent future health issues and promote a healthier life. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education: MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school. Experience: Completion of accredited residency program. Licensure/Certification/Registration: Current or pending license in Minnesota and/or WI to practice as Physician. Current Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) and Department of Public Safety (DPS) registration for prescription writing in Minnesota and/or Wisconsin. Board eligible or Board certified in the appropriate specialty. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Education: N/A Experience: N/A Licensure/Certification/Registration: N/A KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Knowledge of current principles and techniques of physician practice. Ability to function as a team leader, primary provider and role model; to accept individual responsibility and accountability for decisions and outcome; to communicate effectively with patients, families, personnel and other Physicians and establish professional working relationships with the same. To recognize the legal limits of physician practice; to maintain professional competency through continuing education and independent study. Ability to support St. Luke's goals and objectives. READING - Advanced: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquires or complaints. WRITING - Intermediate: Ability to write routine reports, correspondence, or procedures. SPEAKING - Intermediate: Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one, small group situations or before groups of customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS - Advanced: Ability to comprehend and apply advanced mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plan and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, rations and proportions to practical situations. REASONING ABILITY - Advanced Skills: Ability to define and solve problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions and deal with a variety of concrete and abstract variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND ENVIRONMENT PHYSICAL DEMANDS Stand - Occasionally Under 1/3 (1-2.5 hours) Walk - Occasionally Under 1/3 (1-2.5 hours) Sit - Continuously Over 2/3 (5.5-8 hours) Use hands to finger, handle, or feel - Continuously Over 2/3 (5.5 - 8 hours) Reach with hands and arms - Occasionally Under 1/3 (1-2.5 hours) Stoop, Squat, Kneel, or Crouch - Occasionally Under 1/3 (1-2.5 hours) Bending-repetitive forward - Occasionally Under 1/3 (1-2.5 hours) Talk or hear - Continuously Over 2/3 (5.5 - 8 hours) LIFTING REQUIREMENTS Up to 10 pounds - Frequently 1/3 to 2/3 (2.5 - 5.5 hours) Up to 25 pounds - Occasionally Under 1/3 (1-2.5 hours) WORK ENVIRONMENT Typical Noise Level - Moderate noise (examples: business office with computers and printers, light traffic) Regularly exposed to the risk of blood borne diseases; contact with patients under wide variety of circumstances; exposed to unpleasant elements (accidents, injuries and illness); subject to varying and unpredictable situations; handles emergency or crisis situations; may perform emergency care; occasionally subjected to irregular hours; pressure due to multiple calls and inquiries.
