This board certified Gastroenterologist will be responsible for the overall medical care of patients with gastroenterological conditions in the outpatient settings at the Aleda E. Lutz VA Medical Center in Saginaw, Michigan.
Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.Education: Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine, obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs.Licensure: Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.Board Certification: Certification in Gastroenterology.Residency Training: Completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.English Language: Proficiency in spoken and written English.Physical Requirements: Reaching, standing, walking, lifting, talking, hearing, vision (ability to distinguish colors), balancing, bending, kneeling, crouching, pushing, pulling, grasping, feeling, sitting, carrying, climbing, crawling.
Functions: Evaluate, diagnose, treat, and provide consultation to adult patients with diseases and disorders of the gastrointestinal tract.Order and provide interpretation of appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic modalities.Perform routine internal medicine procedures including paracentesis and anoscopy.Provide relevant patient education regarding diagnosis and medication management.Supervise, teach, and involve medical students, trainees, and residents.Core gastroenterology procedures include: Moderate Sedation (providers must maintain active ACLS certification)Flexible sigmoidoscopyColonoscopy with and without biopsy or polypectomyEGD, with and without biopsy or polypectomyBasic enterostomy without fluoroscopyThe Gastroenterologist will also be responsible for the management of gastroenterological complications and may facilitate transfer to a tertiary care center when indicated.
