Position Summary: Provide sub-specialty care to outpatients with chronic infectious disease conditions. The program is co-located in a Ryan White HIV clinic. The clinic serves a large panel of active tuberculosis patients, along with other outpatient chronic infections (no OPAT), and concurrently provides services in HIV treatment and prevention, sexual health and gender-affirming care. Collaborate with other ID sub-specialists and HIV primary care providers in a team-based care model with excellent support staff providing patient-centered care to a diverse patient population.
Essential Functions of the Job: Evaluates and manages acute medical problems and chronic diseases. Screens and monitors the management of chronic conditions, symptomatic and well patients. Coordinates the preparation of reports and written documentation including medical records, as required by the department clinic, state and federal agencies. Consultative services for complex diagnostic or therapeutic problems as requested by other staff physicians. Provides detailed documentation in a timely manner for every patient encounter Supervises Nurses and assistants in examining room and may serve as preceptor for team members developing in expanded medical roles (Physician Assistant and Nurse Practitioner). Occasional supervision of medical trainees (medical students and residents) Active participation in interdisciplinary team meetings Collaborates with HIV and TB case management partners. Adheres to established departmental policies and procedures, quality assurance programs, safety, environmental and infection control standards. Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, in-service meetings and workshops. Remains current in literature pertaining to sub-specialty. Attends meetings as required and participates in committees as directed. Performs other duties as assigned. Job Requirements Experience Required: Completion of clinical training. Experience working with medically underserved populations and demonstrated understanding of the cultural sensitivities and medical conditions associated with multi-ethnic communities. Education Required: Graduate from accredited school of Medicine. Certifications Required: Current CA MD/DO and DEA license. CPR certification. Board certified in Internal Medicine. Board certified or eligible in Infectious Disease or other Sub-specialty training in Tuberculosis. Verbal and Written Skills Required to Perform the Job: Good oral and written communication. Technical Knowledge and Skills Required to Perform the Job: Skin biopsy, excision of skin lesions, suturing, casting, and sigmoidoscopy, phlebotomy. Equipment Used: Diagnostic and therapeutic: spirometry ; EKG; peak flow. Working Conditions and Physical Requirements: Prolonged periods of standing and walking . May assist patients in getting onto examination table. Universal Requirements: Pre-employment requirements include I-9, physical, positive background and reference check results, complete application, new hire orientation, pre-employment PPDs.
