OverviewPhysician-Oncologist, Thompson Oncology Lenoir City Full Time, 80 Hours Per Pay Period, Day Shift 44 clinic days with one admin and rotating call including evenings and weekends. Thompson Oncology Group (TOG) is a leader in medical oncology services and provides patients access to all proven, drug-based treatments and the latest clinical trial medicines. Our team of board-certified, fellowship-trained medical oncologists and certified advanced practice providers deliver on-site care and treatment, including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, and hormone therapy, at affiliated infusion centers throughout our region.
Position Summary: Under general guidance of the Chief of Medical Oncology Section or the Medical Director, directs the care of patients with cancer and diseases of the blood referred to the TOG. Works closely with the nursing staff and clinical trials staff to ensure the provision of excellent patient care. Participation in fund-raising activities and in community information activities. Maintains cordial relations with referring physicians and participates in activities with potential to enhance relations with them.
ResponsibilitiesProvides direct patient care in outpatient and inpatient settings for patients with cancer and disorders of the blood. Responsible for working with office staff to ensure an environment for effective delivery of care is present.Participates in clinical trials approved at TCSC and participates in other research activities in the TCSC.Participates in quality control and improvement activities.Maintains cordial and professional relations with referring physicians and provides reports to them in a prompt manner.Maintains full privileges at FSRMC. Has privileges at other facilities determined to be appropriate by the Medical Director.Participates in educational programs and obtains an average of 150 CME credits over every three year period.Undertakes administrative duties within TCSC or FSRMC to facilitate fulfilling the TCSC mission. Such duties are determined in conjunction with Medical Director and/or the Chief of Medical Oncology section.QualificationsMinimum Education: M.D. with subspecialty training in Medical Oncology required; training in Hematology desired.
Minimum Experience: Effective communication skills required and must interact effectively with medical specialists, primary care providers, and with professional and civic organizations.
Licensure Requirement: Current TN MD license. Must be Board Certified in internal medicine and medical oncology. If Board Eligible, must become certified within two exam cycles after beginning employment.
