As a Hydroelectric Plant Mechanic II, the incumbent exercises lead responsibility and works with a crew engaged in the installation, maintenance and reconditioning of large hydroelectric plant and aqueduct mechanical equipment, including large pumps, large turbines, large valves, piping systems, hydraulic power and pressure units, heating and air-conditioning systems, penstocks, gates, trash racks, and drive mechanisms. Inspects the malfunction of mechanical systems and determines corrective action to be taken.

Division of Operations & Maintenance, San Luis Field Division, Plant Maintenance Branch, Mechanical Section, Gustine Department of Water Resources (DWR) was established in 1956 by the California State Legislature. In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:


The ideal candidate will possess hydroelectric plant experience with a background emphasis in performing troubleshooting, installing, and repairing hydraulic turbines, pumps and generators; auxiliary equipment including, but not limited to, air compressors, auxiliary generators (gasoline, diesel, and L.P. gas), sewage ejectors, governors, intakes, hydraulic power units, high and low pressure water, oil, air and grease systems, cranes, hoists, and gates that are found in a hydroelectric pumping/generating plant. We are looking for an individual who possesses strong organizational skills, previous experience with planning and scheduling of projects, as well as leadership or foreman experience. Must possess current industry knowledge and familiarity with policies and regulations directly related to completing safety documentation for job packets, such as pre work safety plans and job hazardous analyses. Writing skills and computer literacy are highly desirable.


Candidates are encouraged to include notations of completed training certifications that relate to lock out tag out, confined space, fall protection, mechanical safety and maintenance, hazard identification/mitigation and energy isolation; and be readily able to provide us with these certifications during the hiring process if needed.
