Schedule: Full time, Monday-Friday
Location: 37 Grove Street, San Francisco. Option to work 1-2 days per week remotely.

Position Summary: The Policy Director works closely with the Director of Strategic Initiatives to develop, plan, organize, and implement Compass Family Services' policy and systems change strategy, and supervises Compass' small policy and advocacy team. This person will lead Compass' effort to: 1) influence family homelessness policy dialogue and direction at the local and state levels, 2) keep family homelessness in the forefront of public thought, 3) identify and execute Compass' systems-change / policy priorities, and 4) oversee Compass' work to build grassroots power in San Francisco communities impacted by family homelessness.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: Organizational Leadership: Represent Compass Family Services to the external community, including City officials and representatives, civic and philanthropic leaders, nonprofit partners and stakeholders, and the media.Work in partnership with the Director of Strategic Initiatives, senior leadership team and Board of Directors to determine and execute the agency's strategic priorities.Coordinate closely with Compass direct service leadership to stay aware of issues impacting service delivery and the lives of families engaging in the homeless emergency response system.Government and Community Relations: Hold a broad understanding of family homelessness and other issue areas relevant to Compass' work, on local, regional, state and national levels.Build and maintain strategic relationships with local non-profit leaders and partner agencies, policy makers, leading experts and other constituents that are important to the development and execution of Compass' policy agenda.Participate and lead relevant coalitions, committees, and forums toward the goal of executing policy change related to Compass' policy agenda.Communications and Policy Related Public Relations: Create powerful written internal and external communications products including an external policy agenda; internal agency policies; briefs, memoranda and/or reports on family homelessness or other relevant issue areas; and materials for posting on Compass' website.Work closely with the agency's development team to develop and manage the agency's online and social media voice as it relates to policy issues.In coordination with the Director of Strategic Initiatives and Chief Development Officer, manage and oversee public and media relations including acting as a key media spokesperson for the agency.Skills and Qualifications: Knowledge of family homelessness and the political landscape in San Francisco with 4+ years of experience in a related field.Master's degree in public policy or social welfare, or a related field is helpful but not required.Experience in government and/or government affairs, politics and/or policy-making, and community relations.Extremely self-directed, self-starter able to manage multiple priorities and relationships.Two years of experience supervising staff.Excellent written and oral communication skills.Ability to convene and lead meetings, deliver presentations, give speeches, and represent Compass to external audiences, including media.Excellent project management skills – ability to manage large, long-term, complex projects.Exercise the authority of the position with diplomacy, honesty, integrity, humor, and tact.Deep commitment to and demonstrated success discussing, integrating, and promoting diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging throughout a complex and dynamic organization.Compensation and Benefits: Salary: $110,000 - $120,000 annually.Paid time off: 4 weeks of vacation your first year, increasing to 5 in your second. Also paid holidays, sick time, family leave, time off for education.Insurance: health, dental and vision insurance are fully covered by Compass for employees and dependent children.
