Political Director Job Description
Submit a written plan that coordinates and implements public policy advocacy communications, but not limited to development and implementation of strategies to increase the political power of UFCW Local 1445 in the state of Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Maine.
Immediate Priorities Get the Cannabis Labor Peace agreement legislation bill passed. This bill was filed by Local 1445 in January 2023 and is now in the Ways and Means Committee. Work the MA State House to make sure the bill comes to the floor for a successful vote. Organize lobby days with staff and members at the MA State House to move Local 1445's political agenda. Create a program for membership Engagement for the 2024 Presidential Election. Develop, coordinate and implement an immediate plan to reach out to elected officials to educate and mobilize them to support current and future Local 1445 fights on contract negotiations, bills and community needs where our members live. Develop, coordinate and implement an immediate plan to stream Local 1445 political endorsements. Set up follow-up meetings with Local 1445 leadership and the elected officials that Local 1445 supported to get into office. Main Responsibilities, But Not Limited To Develop, coordinate, and implement, with specific and measurable timelines and goals, events and membership mobilizations for political leverage to enhance Local 1445 campaigns focused on, but not limited to, the Cannabis, Healthcare, and Retail Grocery industries; Develop, coordinate, and implement strategies to engage, educate and encourage the participation of Local 1445 members politically, and within their community. Develop, coordinate, and implement strategies to create political captains within Local 1445's membership, geographically for political and community mobilization. Develop, coordinate, and implement strategies, specific timelines, and a work plan with check points to engage, educate, and encourage the participation of Local 445 members politically. Create geographically distributed captains for organizing political mobilization. Develop, coordinate, and implement, with assigned staff and directors, logistics and material creation including flyers and handouts for public political events, informational demonstrations, large-scale mobilizations, workshops and membership training; Develop, coordinate, and implement messaging strategies and amplification through social media and other Local 1445 communications platforms; This work can be coordinated with the communications director. Coordinate with Local 1445 organizing, bargaining and servicing directors to develop support work with contract negotiations, organizing; electoral work and membership development. Develop, coordinate, and implement work plan for running and increasing membership participation of the Local 1445's ABC program (PAC) Represent UFCW Local 1445 in key positions, coalitions, and meetings with allies with local and national partners to leverage relationships to support state partners' political programs. Other tasks as assigned by the local union leadership. REQUIRED TO HAVE A VEHICLE AND A VALID DRIVER'S LICENSE.
