The department also offers a 30-unit MA in history, with separate thesis and comprehensive exam tracks. Students graduate with discipline-specific skills, including communication, critical thinking, and cultural competencies, which have clear value in a multi-cultural professional world, and which contribute to the building of better local and global communities. Departmental alumni pursue careers in fields that include law, government, teaching, journalism, business, academia, museum curatorship, librarianship, and the non-profit sector, with some continuing their historical studies at the PhD level.Faculty members in the department are active researchers and writers, who seek ways for their scholarship to inform their classroom activities and their university and community outreach, including museum curatorship and oral-historical source generation. In addition, the successful candidate will be ready to join faculty, staff, students, and administrators in the University's shared commitment to the principles of ethical exploration, civic engagement, social responsibility, and global awareness.The successful candidate will lower-division and upper-division GE courses in American history or world history, and upper-division elective courses in the candidate's area of specialty, as needed.Professional QualificationsTo be recommended for appointment, the candidate must have:A strong commitment to teaching at the BA level.The ability to teach GE courses in American history and world history.Applicants must be ABD at the time of appointment; PhD is preferred.Rank and SalaryFull-time is a 15-unit workload per semester. Actual salary is dependent upon the number of units assigned, educational preparation, and availability of funds subject to any CSU system faculty contract salary increases.Salary commensurate with degree level and experience.Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $4,530 - $6,056 per full-time month.The full-time (15 units per semester) monthly base salary range indicated above is prorated to the number of units worked and are paid in six monthly payments for each full semester.Selection as a candidate in the applicant pool, does not guarantee employment.
