Department of Surgery (DOS, ) at the University of Minnesota is seeking twopostdoctoral research associates to join a team working on
multiple research projects in the field of health data science, artificialintelligence and natural language process, computer vision in the Division of Health Data Science (HDS)
at the DOS. The position is anannually renewable professional academic appointment. Duties/Responsibilities:
* Risk predictive model forclinical outcomes
* casual representation learning for real-world data
* deep learning interpretation, fairness and robustness
*Regularly conduct computational experiments to execute algorithms on various
health and biomedical informatics projects
* Assist withnew project development including literature review, study design.
* Work under general supervision but usually is given the latitude tomake decision
on projects that s/he is accountable for delivering on; decisions may involve an
approach from among alternatives,determining how to best use available
resources
* Design and/or implement AI methods, summarize findings, and generatestudy
results for research topics
* Write, edit or critique technical reports and/or publications describing research
results tosponsors or funders of the research,
* Communicate and present analytical results to researchers, faculty, and other
academicprofessionals in associated fields of expertise (spoken presentations,
poster or written work summaries for display, panels, and otherformats). Qualifications Required Qualifications:
* A Ph.D. degree in Biomedical/HealthInformatics, Computer Science, Information
Science, Computational Linguistics, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a
relatedtechnical field.
* Strong programming skills in Python, Java, etc.
* Expertise in machine learning, neural networks, and deeplearning
* Excellent writing and communication skills
* Highly motivated, ability to identify potential problems and developsolutions.
* Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to
accomplish multiple tasks withindeadlines, and adapt to ever changing needs Preferred Qualifications:
* Research experience in natural languageprocessing on biomedical and/or
clinical texts, computer vision on medical images, causal inference, predictive
modeling onlongitudinal data.
* Expertise in transformers, reinforcement learning, transfer learning
* Experience with leading projects within aresearch team
* Working knowledge of modern web service and/or software implementation
* Ability to work collaboratively with adiverse group of research scientists with About the Department

Division of HealthData Science in DOS is a newly created division which focuses on development of novel data science methods to analyze biomedical big datafor
advancing health care. The Natural Language Processing / Information Extraction (NLP/IE) Program () at the Institute for Health informatics is a team ofinvestigators, postdoctoral researchers, programmers, and students who work together on NLP for a variety of clinical and biomedicaltasks.
