Job Description
A postdoctoral associate position in the area of organoid design and engineering is available in the Department of Chemical Engineering, Virginia Tech (Blacksburg VA, USA). The post-doctoral associate will be responsible for developing novel techniques for designing organoids, including methods for analyzing their properties using single-cell techniques. The postdoctoral associate will also be responsible for data management and dissemination of scientific results.
The postdoctoral associate will closely interact with the Pandemic Prevention and Prediction Destination Area. The associate will have opportunities to collaborate with virologists, drug designers, and computational biologists. Projects will include developing organoids to support the complete life cycle of viruses and high-throughput testing of candidate anti-viral drugs. Required Qualifications
PhD in Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Biological Sciences or related field. The PhD must be awarded no more than four years prior to the effective date of appointment with a minimum of one year eligibility remaining.
• Strong knowledge of tissue engineering, organoid development, cell-based methodologies, biochemical measurements and biomaterials
• Existing knowledge on how to use organoids to investigate pathogen infectivity
• Strong track record of scientific productivity and publications
• Experience managing several projects simultaneously
• Excellent communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
• Interest in collaborating with virologists and drug discovery researchers
• Prior experience in trans- and multi-disciplinary projects
• Enthusiasm to learn how to use organoids to investigate pathogen infectivity
• Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as in collaboration with investigators in other disciplines
