The UW Medicine Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology brings together state-of-the-art technology and highly trained, world renowned personnel to provide comprehensive diagnostic and personalized service to physicians, community hospitals, independent laboratories, and other health care organizations. Our operations are based at the University of Washington Medical Center, Harborview Medical Center, South Lake Union, Northwest Hospital and the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance. Faculty members also serve at Seattle Children's Hospital, the Veteran's Administration Puget Sound Healthcare System, and the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. These collaborative efforts have generated innovative, translational studies in the basic mechanisms of disease as they apply to diagnostic laboratory medicine and pathology. The Derdeyn Lab has an outstanding opportunity for a 1.0 FTE Postdoctoral Scholar. Term of appointment: This position is a full-time, 12-month (one-year) appointment that may be extended up to a maximum of three years. The base salary range for this position will be: $5,459 per month ($65,508 annually). General Duties : Hands on laboratory research that includes multiple projects related to HIV-1 structure/function, immunology, and vaccines. Approaches include molecular biology, protein expression and purification, virus replication, neutralization, and inhibition, flow cytometry, ELISA, and 10X Genomics single cell RNA sequencing. Analyzing, compiling, and interpreting data. Preparing and writing manuscripts and grants. Staying current with relevant literature and developments in the field. Intellectual engagement and contribution to the research program. Actively engaging with collaborating laboratories. Creating data presentations for meetings and conferences. Contributing to the organization and logistics of the lab. Qualifications Requirements: Education requirement, minimum: PhD in biomedical sciences related to biology, immunology, microbiology, virology, or equivalent. Additional Requirements: Proficient in molecular biology laboratory, flow cytometric, and tissue culture techniques. Uses safe and best laboratory practices. Works well within a collaborative team-based environment. Has a demonstrated ability for written scientific communication with an emerging record of peer-reviewed publications. Desired: A highly motivated individual with outstanding communication and project management skills and a strong interest in HIV and vaccines; familiarity with nonhuman primate studies and NIH funded research; familiarity or proficiency in Python or other coding languages; interest in writing research grant applications; experience working with HIV/SIV; experience with or strong interest in learning 10X Genomics.
