ResponsibilitiesAs an Electrical Engineer in Eastman's Plant Maintenance Department, Centralized Electrical Group, you'll provide electrical engineering technical support for plant operating departments and the maintenance Power Distribution Team. You'll also provide electrical engineering support for capital projects including definition of the high voltage electrical scope of project, input to estimates, design and specification of equipment, and other needed capital project services. You will maintain expertise in assigned functional areas and areas of subject matter expertise. You will also maintain Corporate and site standards related to assigned functional areas, aligning these with other industry standards as applicable.
Job Responsibilities Provide high voltage power distribution electrical engineering technical support, primarily for the Longview, Texas but for other sites as requestedIdentify opportunities for improved electrical design (e.g., improved safety, quality, cost, reliability, etc.)Maintain technical expertise in assigned functional areas such as power distribution, electric motors, variable frequency drives, etc.Provide or coordinate training for operating departments and Control Systems Mechanics related to assigned functional areasProvide forecast cost and schedule estimates for capital and maintenance projectsDetermine scope of work for electrical portion of projectsProvide engineering design and specifications to support procurement and construction activities for projectsLead and/or participate on standards teams to develop standards and practices to be used for capital and maintenance projectsMaintain knowledge of latest innovations and technologiesInterpret codes and standards related to functional areas of expertiseParticipate with E&I team members on improvement projects related to E&I processesProvide on-call E&I support for plant operationsPrioritize work assignments based on the safety, environmental, regulatory and economic value to EastmanWork with Operations and Maintenance to resolve electric motor issues on low voltage and medium voltage motor applicationsProvide engagement and support for capital projects involving motor installationsMonitor performance and maintain data on equipment where possibleAssist in the troubleshooting of motor or motor-related issuesLead effort for the repair of large electrical motorsCommunicate equipment repair status to stakeholdersEnsure that motor repair vendors meet Eastman standards for quality and safetyVisit motor repair facilities as needed to ensure quality and reliability of electric motor repairsEngage in reliability reviews associated with motors to discern root causesProvide mentorship and sharing of knowledge for other team membersPerform above duties with attention to safety in both work practices and designPerform above duties with a focus on teamwork and customer satisfactionQualificationsBachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering requiredAt least 5 years of relevant experience in electrical power distribution, system design and troubleshooting requiredExperience in chemical or petrochemical industry highly preferredGeneral electrical engineering and project management skills, including all or some of the following:Power distributionElectrical system designGroundingLightingMotorsVariable frequency drivesMust possess a mindset that injuries and safety events are avoidable; unwavering commitment to personnel and process safetyAbility to work effectively in a team environment with personnel from diverse backgroundsAbility to effectively handle a large volume of important or urgent issues in a timely mannerHigh level of initiative; ability to effectively self-manage a very demanding workloadAbility to effectively represent Eastman interest with outside groups, companies, and agenciesAbility to work independently and drive initiatives while providing good communication on statusService-oriented and customer-focusedGood written and oral communication skillsGood team leadership skillsStrong problem-solving and decision-making skillsGood planning and organizing skillsStrong curiosity and a desire to determine the root cause of a problemDesire for continuous improvement and development for personal growthEastman Chemical Company is an equal opportunity employer.
