CAIRO Academy is a decentralized preschool program funded by Preschool Promise and Preschool For All, with 5 classrooms across the Portland metro area.
The Academy's focus is to provide a culturally-specific and accessible preschool curriculum that draws on the values and approaches of Reggio Emelia, Montessori and play-based learning.
The Academy runs on a school-year schedule from late August - mid June.
Position Summary
The Preschool Driver drives passenger vans on a daily basis to transport preschool children ages 3-5 years old to and from school.
The Driver will also drive students for field trips and special activities.
We are looking for a qualified and enthusiastic candidate who wants to work a split shift (morning and afternoon).
Some days may require additional hours or a non-typical schedule (e.g., professional development, field trips, class events).
This Driver will work for our Portland preschool classroom located at the PPS Annex on SE Division.
Required availability from 7:15a - 9:15a and 2:00p - 4:00p.
This position reports to the Preschool Supervisor, but requires coordination with the Lead Teacher regarding student absences and family communication.
Salary: $23.00 - $25.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.

Duties & Responsibilities
Drive a passenger van.
Communicate with staff and parents to adjust route & schedule as necessary.
Loads and unloads students in designated areas, following proper safety procedures.
Follows all driver policies including but not limited to:
Applicable driving laws and child care licensing requirements.
Safety procedures (pre-trip checks and during driving)
Distracted driving ban
Returns vehicle to assigned parking areas.
Coordinates maintenance on van including but not limited to:
Regular cleaning
Regular maintenance (e.g.
oil changes)
Informs the Preschool Supervisor of any vehicle issues.
Participates in professional development, field trips, and events as required.
Qualifications
Must possess a valid and current driver's license.
Must be able to successfully pass applicable background and Oregon Central Background Registry checks prior to new hire processing and beginning actual employment.
Required language: English
Any employee driving for CAIRO must also meet the following driving record criteria:
No more than 2 moving violations and/or accidents (or a combination of the two) within the past three years
No major violation(s) during the past 5 years.
They include (but are not limited to):
Driving while intoxicated or under the influence (DWI/DUI/OWI/OUI)
Leaving the scene of an accident (hit and run)
Careless or reckless driving
Manslaughter/homicide or assault through use of a motor vehicle
Fleeing/eluding a police officer
Commission of a felony
No more than 3 vehicle related suspensions/reinstatements over a three-year period.
These are counted separately from the other violations.

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Good working with young children and parents under tight timelines.
Ability to work well as part of a team.
Work Conditions
This position requires the ability to drive and get in/out of a van, as well as physically assist students with getting into the van, getting buckled, etc.
