Job DescriptionThe Principal Actuary is responsible for supporting the development of actuarial concepts and providing thought leadership for Prime's existing and potential owners and clients. This position will collaborate with the Senior Principal Actuary to provide strategic consulting support, manage the development of innovative actuarial modeling concepts, and provide pricing support for all lines of business. This position will also lead complex projects that are highly visible to executives and across the organization.
ResponsibilitiesCollaborate as a subject matter expert (SME) with underwriters, other areas of Prime, and senior management on pricing initiatives, data analyses, and the Request For Proposal (RFP) processLead, manage, and review data analyses, reporting, and projectionsLead, manage, and review ad hoc complex pharmacy data mining and analyses to help investigate and answer challenging questions regarding actuarial data and conceptsProvide strategic pricing advice on structures and methodology using market research, financial projections, and complex actuarial modelingPresent results and analyses to key stakeholders, senior management, and clients; answer detailed and challenging questions regarding actuarial dataLead and mentor Actuarial team members to enhance actuarial knowledgeMonitor the Health Policy environment considering the implication of organization pricing policies, law, and political changes that may impact client programsEnsure all work is consistent with federal regulations and actuarial standards, as applicableOther duties as assignedMinimum QualificationsBachelor's degree in Math, Actuarial Science, Economics or Finance8 years of actuarial work experience to include 6 years in a healthcare organization or PBMActuarial designation (ASA or FSA)Must be eligible to work in the United States without need for work visa or residency sponsorshipAdditional QualificationsAdvanced level of proficiency in Excel; intermediate level of proficiency in SAS, SQL, or VBAExcellent quantitative, problem solving, and analytical skillsStrong project management and organizational skillsExcellent verbal and written communication skillsStrong client consulting presenceExcellent presentation and facilitation skillsPreferred Qualifications8 years of actuarial work experience in a healthcare organization or PBMPrevious experience pricing Commercial, Medicare or Medicaid lines of businesses5 years of experience in SAS, SQL, or VBAPrevious experience in model building and underwriting or risk adjusted rate setting, or model developmentPrevious experience in identifying, designing, recommending, and implementing efficient, innovative business solutions to clients' complex pharmacy benefit challengesMinimum Physical Job RequirementsConstantly required to sit, use hands to handle or feel, talk and hearFrequently required to reach with hands and armsOccasionally required to stand, walk and stoop, kneel, and crouchOccasionally required to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 poundsSpecific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focusReporting StructureReports to Senior Principal or Senior Director in the Finance department
