Expedia Group, a leading online travel website, is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Principal Engineer to join our talented team. In this role, you'll be instrumental in developing and implementing a comprehensive technical DR strategy for multiple microservice-based systems deployed in cloud and hybrid data centers.

What you'll do: Design, architect, and implement a robust DR solution for our large-scale, distributed systems. Most of these systems are hosted on AWS (Amazon Web Services) cloud, but other cloud providers and data center solutions are in play.
Deep dive into our micro-services architecture and understand the interdependencies between services and data stores. Define and catalog the fault zones within our systems. Design resiliency and recovery strategies to meet stringent recovery time and recovery point (RTO/RPO) objectives.
Evaluate and select appropriate DR technologies for our unique data needs (relational databases, NoSQL stores, etc.). Guide teams to the right data store solution based on recovery objectives.
Lead the team to implement simple, elegant resiliency patterns and recovery solutions with an "always be automating" mindset.
Build a solution to allow application development teams to implement well-documented, detailed DR procedures, ensuring clear communication and execution during emergencies.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (developers, operations, security) to ensure seamless integration of DR strategies into our existing workflows.
Stay up to date on the latest DR best practices and emerging technologies in the cloud computing space.
Lead and mentor engineers in understanding disaster recovery principles.
Who you are: 8+ years of experience in software engineering with a focus on distributed systems and cloud computing (AWS preferred).
Proven experience in designing and implementing DR solutions for complex systems.
In-depth understanding of micro-services architectures and their unique DR challenges.
Strong knowledge of various data storage solutions and their DR considerations.
Experience working with DevOps principles and automation tools.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills; ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to a non-technical audience.
Strong leadership qualities and a passion for mentoring junior engineers.
Bonus points for: Experience in the travel technology industry.
Knowledge of DR orchestration tools.
AWS Solutions Architect certification or similar cloud certification.
Professional Business Continuity Manager certification.
At Expedia, you'll: Work on a large-scale platform with real-world impact, helping millions of users plan their dream vacations.
Collaborate with a talented and passionate team of engineers who are driven to build innovative solutions.
Be empowered to own your projects and make a significant contribution to the company's success.
Enjoy a competitive salary and benefits package, with opportunities for professional growth and development.
