Principal Mechanical Engineer
YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
You will challenge existing methods and develops improvements for higher throughput, higher quality, and improved integration with existing production methods. Additionally, you will lead of cross functional engineering and science teams with hands-on role in the design, development, constructing, and documentation of mechanical and electrical systems from the prototyping/validation stage through implementation/deployment.
The primary responsibilities of this role, Principal Mechanical Engineer, are to:
Lead the research of new technologies and recommends technical innovation in machine/system architecture, control methodologies, and industrial/lab automation;
Lead the design and develop of mechanical and electrical systems for domestic and international laboratory, production, and agricultural environments;
Lead project planning and design, estimating resources, timeline and cost as well as creating functional requirements, engineering drawings, test plans, technical reports, and operational documents;
Construct working prototypes to validate performance compared to requirements;
Design and development activities include leading, participating, coordinating, and supporting planning, concept, design, and execution stages; risk assessment; prototyping/testing; design reviews; verification, and validation;
Work closely with other discipline engineering and science teams to develop concepts and innovative solutions;
Work closely with matrix team members, support staff, and manufacturing teams in machine/system operation to ensure design is transferable to production sites;
Document intellectual property and create patent applications;
Collaborate with Safety departments to comply with company and industry safety and design standards;
Identify and form partnerships with external fabrication suppliers and component vendors.
WHO YOU ARE
Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:
Required Qualifications:
B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering field;
Ability to function as a technical lead throughout the design and development project stages;
Ability to take initiative, identifying new methods and approaches, and challenging current methods of working;
Hands-on experience constructing complex mechanical and electrical systems;
Experience in designing for reliability and manufacturability;
Strong knowledge and experience with engineering principles and procedures that apply to machine design, machine safety and machine risk assessment;
Experience in the selection and application of transducers and sensors, machine and process controls, motor drives / controllers and machine component selection;
Expert knowledge of a professional level CAD software with demonstrated proficiency using SolidWorks;
Experience in the design of electro-mechanical systems, pneumatic systems, automated conveyor and robotic work cells, material handling equipment;
Experience with prototype building and test fixtures, rapid prototyping techniques, fabrication methods, validation methods/tools including experimental design, data reduction/analysis, interpretation, and iteration;
Experience with documentation of designs, design changes, and test/validation results;
Demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple projects and tasks;
Strong mathematical, verbal, and written communication skills;
Experience using standard office productivity software; Excel, Word, PowerPoint;
Willingness to travel up to 20% of time.
Preferred Qualifications:
B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering field with 10+ years of industry experience or advanced engineering degree with 7+ years of industry experience;
Experience in plastic injection molding and mold design;
Experience in CFD and/or FEA model simulation;
Experience in Hydraulic system design;
Experience in Programming PLC's, microcontrollers, with higher-level languages;
Experience in Electrical and electronics;
Experience in Imaging systems and image processing.
