About this OpportunityWe are seeking a dynamic person to join our Private Sector Housing Team in the Thriving Communities Directorate. The post is full time working 37 hours per week and is offered as a temporary contract until March 2026.
The appointee will be involved in the full range of duties undertaken by the team but will primarily work pro-actively in Barrow's designated Housing Market Renewal area. There will also be an expectation to support colleagues dealing with housing standards throughout the Council's area and taking any necessary enforcement action when service demands require it. Other duties include the regulation of Houses in Multiple Occupation, dealing with empty properties, and supporting energy efficiency initiatives in the private sector.
It would be advantageous to have experience working in an enforcement role within a local authority or similar, as well as an additional qualification in environmental protection, housing, building, construction, or surveying. Applications from professional tradespersons with demonstrable skills are welcome, and if the right candidate displays the qualities we are looking for, training can be provided.
You should be a team player, able to organise your own workload, and committed to providing a high standard of customer service. Good written and oral communication skills and IT competence are essential. You must have the ability to travel efficiently around the borough to conduct visits and attend meetings; a full UK driving licence and access to a car would be an advantage.

The ability to converse at ease with customers and provide advice and instruction in accurate spoken English is an essential requirement.
