This is classified as VHNE (Variable Hour Non-Benefit Employee), where the selected candidate will work less than 29 hours per week.
This position does not provide medical benefits.
This position earns sick leave in accordance with the Healthy Families and Workplace Act.

OVERVIEW OF POSITION / DEPARTMENT

Probation officers provide evaluations, make sentencing recommendations, and supervise all persons placed on deferred judgement probation by the Municipal Court.


PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES The successful candidate must speak, write and read fluent Spanish Supervises defendants by interviews, telephone contacts, virtual contacts (Teams) and review of case files Works with referral counseling agencies Documents results or progress of psychological, job and/or educational counseling Prepares pre-sentencing investigations Evaluates applicants for probation through record checks, personal interviews, verification of client information consultation with City Attorney, and alternative treatment sources Implements and monitors special in-house or other programs Conducts restitution investigations Prepares and presents sentencing and probation revocation reports by performing evaluations based on prior criminal history Testifies in court Provides information on uniformity of sentencing for equivalent offenses Conducts evaluations of prisoners in jail, as required, for dispositions Provides information to other courts and probation departments Responds to requests from judges and defendants Performs additional duties as assigned Will handle CJIS related information MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & WORKING CONDITIONS

Probation Officer I

Education and Experience:

Probation Officer I Bachelor's degree in psychology, criminal justice or directly related field One (1) year of experience working as a probation officer.
An equivalent combination of experience, education and training may be considered Knowledge of the Colorado Victim Rights Statutes The ability to read, write, and speak fluent Spanish Probation Officer II Bachelor's degree in psychology, criminal justice or directly related field Three (3) years of experience working as a probation officer.
An equivalent combination of experience education and training may be considered Knowledge of the Colorado Victim Rights Statutes The ability to read, write, and speak fluent Spanish Knowledge: Advanced computer skills Municipal probation functions, including knowledge of municipal and state laws concerning the terms and limits of probation, types of offenses and sentencing alternatives; criminal justice information, regulations, and procedures; substance abuse and treatment methods; domestic violence cycle of violence and treatment methods; and cultural and subcultural patters and behavior Skills: Strong interpersonal skills Strong presentation skills Strong analytical skills Strong skill in written and verbal communications Strong skills in preparing and executing presentations Skill in checking information for accuracy and completeness and correcting errors Strong computer and application-based skills Abilities: Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and citizens Interpret verbal and/or non-verbal actions of defendants Identify and react to various behaviors Analyze prior criminal history patterns Conduct interviews and personal counseling sessions Identify manipulative behavior Interact with individuals of varying social, cultural, economic, professional, and educational backgrounds Compile and analyze statistical data and prepare related reports Handle sensitive situations with tact and diplomacy Communicate effectively both orally and in writing Creatively solve problems, negotiate, and handle stressful situations in a positive manner Occasional use of personal equipment (e.g.
vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.)
Licenses and Certifications Required: Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) certification required within six (6) months of hire.
NCIC / CCIC Certification may be required WORKING CONDITIONS Essential duties performed primarily in an indoor office, public area setting or court room environment.
This position requires your duties to be performed in person.
It is not eligible for remote work.
Ability to work any hours Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Maximum of 29 hours weekly.

Physical Demands: Light physical work that involves moving no more than 10 pounds at a time, Frequent lifting, carrying, walking, and standing, May require frequent pushing, pulling, bending, and stooping, Clear vision to read and interpret reports and other written documents, Speech communication and hearing to maintain communication with employees and citizens, Operation of computer monitors, keyboard, and mouse.
Work Environment: Works primarily indoors but may work outdoors assisting with a program or outreach events in varying weather conditions This position requires your duties to be performed in person.
It is not eligible for remote work except as directed by the Court Administrator.
Equipment Used: Uses standard office equipment including personal computer and common office software such as email, internet, Word, Excel This position may require the incumbent to use personal equipment (e.g.
vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.)
