Job Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Product Developer to join our team.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing the entire product development lifecycle, with a special focus on fabric, beading, lace sourcing, and PLM management.
You will collaborate closely with designers, suppliers, and manufacturers to bring our creative visions to life, ensuring the highest standards in quality and design execution.
Key Responsibilities:
Material Sourcing & Development:
Source, research, and develop fabrics, laces, and beadwork according to design specifications and brand standards.
Build and maintain relationships with global suppliers, mills, and vendors to ensure timely delivery and quality control.
Negotiate prices, minimums, and delivery schedules with suppliers to meet project timelines and budgets.
Stay updated on emerging fabric trends, new technologies, and sustainable sourcing practices.
Product Lifecycle Management (PLM):
Manage and maintain product development processes in the PLM system.
Input and track materials, trims, specifications, and development updates within the PLM software.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (design, production, and merchandising) to ensure accurate data entry, design intentions, and production timelines.
Sample Development & Prototyping:
Work closely with the design team to develop prototypes, ensuring that fabrics, trims, and embellishments align with the creative direction.
Manage the development of samples, conducting fittings and providing feedback for refinement.
Oversee lab dips, strike-offs, and sample reviews to ensure consistency in quality, color, and design.
Supplier and Vendor Management:
Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, ensuring compliance with company standards and sustainability goals.
Evaluate suppliers capabilities in terms of fabric qualities, beading intricacies, and lace options for each collection.
Communicate design updates, technical requirements, and modifications to suppliers, ensuring alignment with the design brief.
Quality Control & Testing:
Work closely with production teams to ensure quality control at every stage of product development.
Ensure all fabrics and embellishments undergo appropriate testing for durability, color fastness, and wearability.
Resolve any issues related to product development, quality, or material failures.
Collaboration & Communication:
Serve as a liaison between design, production, and supply chain teams to ensure smooth execution of product development from concept to final delivery.
Coordinate with technical design teams for pattern-making and sample development.
Present sourcing strategies and development timelines to management and cross-functional partners.
Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in Fashion Design, Textiles, or a related field.
5 years of experience in product development, fabric sourcing, or related roles within the fashion industry.
Strong knowledge of fabric types, embellishments, and textile technologies.
Experience working with PLM software and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Excellent organizational, communication, and project management skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a keen attention to detail and accuracy.
Strong negotiation skills and the ability to manage supplier relationships effectively.
Knowledge of sustainable fabric sourcing and ethical production practices is a plus.
Preferred Skills:
Experience with couture or high-end fashion houses.
Familiarity with beading, lace detailing, and embroidery processes.
Passion for fashion design and creativity in sourcing unique materials.
