Job Title: Product Development and Support Technician

General Summary: The Product Development and Support Technician plays a critical role in both the development and support of products and their electrical sub-systems throughout their lifecycle. This role involves assisting with prototyping, testing, troubleshooting, and refining/improving products to meet customer requirements and quality and safety standards. The technician will work closely with the Lead Electrical/Technical Engineer and collaborate with product management, design/software engineers, production teams, and quality engineers to ensure product safety, quality, and continuous improvements. A working knowledge of electronics and electronic components/subsystems, along with the ability to read and interpret electronic schematics and component specifications, is essential for success in this role.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Product Support: Provide technical and process support to production teams and supply chain for sourcing alternate components and qualification testing based on product specifications.Prototype Assembly: Assist in the assembly, setup, and testing of product prototypes, including the installation and assembly of electronic components and wiring.Testing and Validation: Conduct product testing to ensure functionality, safety, and compliance with industry standards. Record and report results, identifying any performance or quality issues.Troubleshooting and Repair: Assist in diagnosing and resolving issues in both new product prototypes and existing products in production or returned for review. Troubleshoot basic electronic circuits and replace faulty components as needed.Reading Schematics: Interpret and work from electronic schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical drawings to assist in troubleshooting, assembly, and repair processes.Documentation: Maintain accurate documentation of tests, troubleshooting steps, and repairs, including BOMs, wiring diagrams, and reports when necessary.Continuous Improvement: Proactively recommend improvements to design or manufacturing processes based on hands-on experience during product testing and troubleshooting.Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Commitment to safety as a top priority in every task and decision.Bias for action and proactive approach to solving problems quickly and effectively.Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and manual dexterity.Ability to document test results, troubleshooting processes, and technical findings clearly.Basic knowledge of electronics, electronic components, and circuits.Ability to read and interpret electronic schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical drawings/specifications.Familiarity with using basic electronic testing and repair equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, and soldering tools.Experience working with prototype assembly, product testing, or technical support.Familiarity and interfacing experience with embedded systems or microcontroller-based devices.Experience in lab, manufacturing, or production environments.Education and Experience: Associate's degree in Electronics, Engineering Technology, Technical Trade, or a related field with at least two (2) years on-the-job experience.Alternate education and experience considered based on individual candidate.Language Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Ability to present information to all levels of employees and outside vendors/suppliers.Computer Skills: Proficient with Business Productivity Software (MS Office, Libre Office, etc.).Familiarity with EDA/ECAD or Schematic Software packages (Altium, KiCad, etc.).Proficient with PC-based test equipment and software.Physical Demands: Comfortable working in a lab, production, or manufacturing environment.Ability to lift up to 35 pounds.Ability to stand, sit, and work at a bench or workstation for extended periods.Work Environment: Office, lab, and manufacturing environments.
Travel Requirements: Infrequent, but must be willing to travel as needed.
