The Production Supervisor is responsible for leadership of hourly employees in the assigned work area with the objective of achieving department goals and production schedules that ensure a quality product and on-time delivery with maximum customer satisfaction in a safe work environment. The position is "hands on" in a fast-paced, physically demanding assembly environment and requires a supervisor who is willing and able to work alongside the employees on a daily basis.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Execute supervisory responsibilities to include, but not limited to: planning, assigning, and directing work; administering and complying with Company policies and procedures; managing attendance and approving Kronos records in a timely manner for processing payroll; interviewing, onboarding, and training employees; managing performance, writing and conducting appraisals, and administering corrective action; and proactively responding to employee grievances to ensure high morale and maximum employee satisfaction. Facilitate, promote, and implement lean manufacturing initiatives that drive continuous improvements in safety, quality, delivery, and cost in the Assembly department, following the Altra Business System (ABS) tools and methods. Lead and/or participate in Kaizen events and GEMBA ("go and see" walks. Assist Value Stream Manager with executing strategic deployment of ABS objectives. Serve as an active member of the Safety Committee by participating in monthly safety meetings, safety/5S audits, and reenactments. Ensure a safe working environment by enforcing compliance with the plant's Safety Policy and state and federal OSHA regulations. Evaluate production and quality problems, provide guidance and assistance with resolving issues, and facilitate actions to implement corrective actions, including technical support and instruction for new manufacturing procedures. Continuously seek out and recommend measures to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and improve quality. Coordinate and administer Quality Incident Investigations in order to problem solve costly incidents. Analyze and plan workforce utilization, workflow, and design of equipment layout and workspace for maximum efficiency. Fulfill administrative and human resources responsibilities as required by the role to include, but not limited to, developing and writing work instructions and job breakdowns, completing production reports and problem-solving / corrective action documents, and maintaining training/skills matrices. Education and Experience Requirements High School diploma is required (Associate or higher-level degree is desired) along with 2 or more years of progressive work experience in a manufacturing production environment, preferably in mechanical products (metal cutting industry and assembly). Prior supervisory experience managing hourly production employees is strongly desired. Proven success in implementing process or product improvements is required. Physical Demand and Work Environment: Majority of time is spent in a manufacturing production environment with some (but not all) climate-controlled areas. Personal protective safety equipment must be worn, and proper safety precautions must be observed. Potential exposure may include, but is not limited to: solvents, dusts, lead, fiberglass, noise, heat, cold.
Potential physical demands include, but are not limited to: frequent walking and standing, occasional twisting, stooping, carrying, handling, pushing, and pulling; climbing, kneeling and lifting up to 50 lbs. Potential sensory demands include but are not limited to: hearing and seeing.
