Job Description:Job Title: Program Director (El Centrito de Apoyo & Un Paso Mas)
FLSA status: Non-Exempt, full time 36.25 hours M-F –some weekends
Location: Huntington Park, CA
Reports to: Deputy Director of Operations
Summary: Under the direction of the Deputy Director of Operations, coordinates all aspects of client run center of El Centrito de Apoyo & Un Paso Mas, including resources development, staffing, groups and community-based activities.

In conjunction with the Deputy Director of Operations administers a countywide network of self-help groups, warm line and other PRPSN programs in compliance with LA County DMH standards and respective government and private funding sources.In close cooperation with the Deputy Director of Operations, recruits, hires, schedules, supervises, trains, directs, evaluates, rewards, disciplines and terminates program staff in accordance with organizational policy and applicable laws and regulations.Must be open and understanding of the diverse Hispanic cultures and willing to meet people where they are, providing culturally sensitive and appropriate services in the manner that is driven by the people we serve.Tracks, assesses and documents the operational effectiveness of El Centrito de Apoyo & Un Paso Mas and provides direction to staff to meet program contract objectives.Maintains the Time & Attendance System & complies with payroll deadlines.Answers program phones and provides a friendly, welcoming tone for callers. Listens actively to individuals' concerns and provides information, education, verbal assurance, encouragement and support. Provides or assists in providing referrals to appropriate agencies and services, including intervention or referral to emergency or crisis services if necessary.If or when appropriate, provides advocacy services by researching information, placing phone calls on behalf of the people we serve, and otherwise directly intervening to connect people to service providers. Actively participates in maintaining the program's established written system for tracking referrals.Works actively within a multi-disciplinary team environment to develop and deliver peer-to-peer and self-help opportunities and services for people we serve.This person has excellent networking skills and builds relationships with mental health centers, wellness centers, other community agencies, and local governmental advisory, oversight and advocacy groups in the arena of mental health throughout Los Angeles County.Attends and participates in staff meetings and other aspects of the day-to-day operations and community life of the worksite. Manages day-to-day activities of El Centrito de Apoyo & Un Paso Mas including staffing, facilitators and programming.Works cooperatively with other staff to assure the smooth and seamless delivery of comprehensive Project Return services to the Agency and its people we serve.Maintains all records and documentation in accordance with PRPSN standards, funding source requirements and generally accepted accounting procedures.Must be fluent in Spanish both written and verbal.In conjunction with the Deputy Director of Operations, provide leadership, direction, staff training and development in order to support and fulfill the PRPSN's Mission, Vision and Values.Attends and assists with the facilitation of bi-weekly staff meetings.Develops or plans for relevant staff training and development to support and/or enhance the delivery of PRPSN programs.Must have a desire to work with individuals impaired by extreme distress/mental illness and believe in an individual's ability to recover from disabling mental distress.Must verbalize an initial and ongoing understanding of environmental variables that may present while performing administrative tasks and/or providing direct services as a PRPSN employee (i.e., individuals presenting at the agency in extreme emotional states).Must exhibit good personal judgment, a non-bias attitude, sensitivity, and discretion when dealing with other individuals. Must demonstrate the skills and ability to "work and play well with others" interacting with co-workers, program participants, family members and community partners effectively and responding appropriately when experiencing interpersonal conflict with others.Other duties as assigned by the Deputy Director of Operations.Models PRPSN approach, mission and core values in all communication and correspondence.Must drive with current class C driver's license, with vehicle for transportation.Skills:OTHER POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Position is reserved for an individual who has personally lived an experience of psychiatric disability and/or mental illness.Ability to relate positively and enthusiastically to a wide variety of people.Must be calm, patient, empathetic, have excellent listening skills and the ability to relate positively to a wide variety of people.Peer Advocate Certificate/Training and demonstrated experience in peer support, peer advocacy or self-help. Obtaining a Peer Specialist certificate within 6 months will be required for any candidate that doesn't currently have one.Must have good basic reading and writing skills.Must exhibit good personal judgment and discretion when dealing with others.Must have physical and emotional stamina to spend long periods of time using a telephone.Knowledgeable in computer applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.Flexible work schedule to include some nights, weekends and holidays.Employees are required to carry adequate limits of liability, with minimum of $30,000 for property damage and $60,000 for bodily injury. A copy of the declaration page of your personal automobile insurance policy must be provided to PRPSN annually.Physical Demands: In general, the following physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to allow different individuals to perform the essential functions of the job.
