About the Center for Multicultural Affairs and Engagement (CMAE) The mission of the center is to recruit, support, develop, retain, and graduate a diverse community of students & trainees. The center works to create a welcoming environment for all. The center supports and engages with student organizations such as the Student National Medical Association (SNMA), White Coats 4 Black Lives (WC4BL), Latino Medical Student Association (LMSA), Asian Pacific American Medical Student Association (APAMSA), Promoting Recognition of Identity, Dignity, and Equality (PRIDE) in Healthcare, and Minority Associations of Pre-Medical Students (MAPS).
The CMAE Program Manager in the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at the University of Minnesota Medical School is part of our CMAE team, which supports our trainees as they progress through medical school. The Program Manager handles day-to-day operations in providing a variety of support efforts, initiatives, and programming for medical students, trainee groups, managing events, and maintaining administrative operations.

This position is hybrid, with on-site and remote scheduling options based on the needs of the position.
Duties/Responsibilities 40%: Project Management Project design and project management: provide, design, implement, and support multiple projects within the Center of Multicultural Affairs and Engagement. Provide input and execute strategic plans of the Office as designated by the Director and the Vice Dean. Develop and design project plans for new initiatives and student programming ranging from months to years to implementation. Apply extensive project management experience to determine when projects are in jeopardy of delay or failure, determine resources needed, and align resources to keep initiatives moving forward. Develop and maintain an inventory log of all projects in progress, milestones achieved, rate of return on investment (where appropriate), and improvements achieved. Report regularly on the progress of each initiative, informing leadership of highlights and risks throughout as needed. Gathers and analyzes data and metrics to assess the effectiveness and impact of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs, policies, and activities, identifying areas for improvement and implementing process improvements (i.e., cost-benefit analysis and accountability improvements). Collaborate with other ODEI data leaders regarding additional metrics needed. Direct communication strategies, including writing, editing, and rewriting department materials, workshop announcements, web submissions, manuscripts, and other electronic/written materials. Maintain current knowledge of relevant institutional policies, practices, and processes. Monitors national trends in medical and higher education and student success, DEI practices, remains current in the field of student advising/engagement, AAMC holistic review practices, and medical school admissions. 30%: Student Group and Event Support Build genuine and authentic relationships with medical students by actively engaging in one-on-one interactions, group settings, and relevant events. Provide mentorship and guidance to students, understanding their individual needs and challenges. Collaborate with other stakeholders to develop programs and initiatives that enhance the overall well-being and academic success of medical students. Act as a resource and advocate, addressing concerns and contributing to a positive and inclusive culture within the medical school community. Provides direction, guidance, and administrative support to the Minority Association of Pre-Medical Students (MAPS), Student National Medical Association Mentor Program (SNMA), Medical Student Affinity Groups, and other related groups as assigned. Assist in managing budgets for education, retention, and student group programs Acts as a liaison between students, student groups, and departmental leaders Oversee the planning and implementation of major annual CMAE student-facing programs, events, activities, and workshops. 30%: Outreach and Collaborative Partnerships Collaborate with faculty, staff, and students to develop programs and opportunities to support the success of UIM and/or multicultural students, trainees, administrators, professional staff, and faculty. Serve as point of contact for the Medical School Office of Communications and Marketing for websites and email communication updates related to CMAE. Represent CMAE at various university and college-wide administrator meetings and DEI committees. Provide community outreach related to the DEI initiatives of the Medical School. Work in partnership and collaboration with the Senior Program Manager, Associate Dean of Medical Students, and the Vice Dean of the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Required Qualifications: Bachelorâ™s degree with a minimum of two years of experience in higher education,  admissions, and/or student services or a combination of education and experience to equal six years. Ability to work flexible hours â" evenings and weekend shifts for events are required. Hours allow for hybrid work. Strong work ethic with proven ability to work well as a team member, respond to direction and feedback, contribute collaboratively with minimal direction, demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills Self-starter, comfortable with a high degree of independent judgment, who takes initiative to achieve results with evidence of effective task or project completion People-focused to promote engagement of stakeholders (e.g., professional students, faculty, ODEI team members, professional staff) Ability to organize and manage competing priorities and multiple options in a complex organization Critical thinking and analysis skills to evaluate project successes as well as troubleshooting and/or intervening to ensure good outcomes Ability to maintain confidentiality and effectively handle sensitive information, adhering to policies Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion Demonstrated ability to create and maintain collaborative relationships Event planning experience with the ability to anticipate issues and resolve them quickly Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), and Google Suite applications About University of Minnesota Twin Cities
