Program Manager, Fitness & Wellness Programs University of California Los Angeles Budgeted Pay Scale: $59,100 - $72,000 Annually Full Salary Range: USD $59,100.00/Yr. - USD $114,300.00/Yr. Department Summary UCLA Recreation is a large department within the Division of Campus Life in Student Affairs with approximately 90 full-time career and contract and over 1,000 part-time employees. UCLA Recreation provides extensive access to a broad range of recreational activities and wellbeing services, and offers programming which encompasses the competitive, passive, social, cultural, and instructional aspects of recreational activity. In addition, the department manages 15 of the University's recreational and athletic facilities offering recreation, competition, and numerous multi-use options for student and university events. Position Summary Under the direction of the Associate Director, Fitness and Wellbeing, the Program Manager, Fitness & Wellness Programs is a technical leader with a high degree of knowledge in the overall field and recognized expertise in specific areas; problem-solving frequently requires analysis of unique issues/ problems without precedent and/or structure. In this role, the incumbent has responsibility for development of curriculum for various campus and UC campus wide fitness and wellness programs and events. The Program Manager will manage programs that include formulating strategies and administering policies, processes, and resources; functions with a high degree of autonomy and is responsible for oversight, development and management of fitness and wellness programs and events which include group exercise, yoga, dance, Pilates and other mind/body formats; fitness & wellness education, outreach & events; and massage Further, the incumbent designs, executes and reconciles the budget, marketing and promotion for these programs. Salary & Compensation *UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Certification and demonstrated sound foundation in and working knowledge of fitness, personal training, injury prevention, fitness equipment, and mind/body systems. (Required) 2. Advanced ability to develop and plan instructional workshops and create new program concepts. (Required) 3. Strong ability to promote and manage a fee-based program, including budget projection and planning skills, on-going budget management; and marketing to a diverse university audience, including students, faculty, staff and alumni. (Required) 4. Demonstrated supervisory skills, including interviewing, evaluation, corrective action, conflict management, team building and problem solving. (Required) 5. High capacity to prioritize and manage workload to meet overall departmental and programmatic needs while working independently and following through on assignments with minimal direction. (Required) 6. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain cooperative and professional working relationships with co-workers, employees and the public. Skill in listening perceptively and maintaining equanimity when dealing with conflicts, complaints and difficult situations. (Required) 7. Advanced knowledge and use of appropriate terminology in anatomy, bio-mechanics, kinesiology, exercise physiology, exercise psychology, nutrition, and exercise adaptations. Knowledge of risk management procedures, including management of Bloodborne Pathogens. (Required) 8. Strong ability to deliver highly effective service orientations, program management, able to use critical thinking skills to develop original and creative problem solving ideas in a varied and challenging environment. Demonstrated ability to analyze and improve programs and processes as needed. (Required) 9. Demonstrates advanced client service leadership, entrepreneurial spirit and creative thinking skills to resolve non-standard issues. (Required) 10. Broad working knowledge of the administration and maintenance of a fitness facility, particularly in the campus (university) recreation setting. Advanced knowledge of program activity and best practices. (Required) 11. Thorough and demonstrated experience mentoring college-age staff in professional development. (Required) 12. Knowledge and understanding of university governance, decision making processes, and the nuances of the tripartite faculty, student and staff campus "culture" and institutional history. (Preferred) Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations Bachelor's Degree Public Health, Physical Education, Kinesiology, Fitness, or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience (Required) Master's Degree Master's degree in public health, Physical Education, Kinesiology, Fitness, or related field; (Preferred) Red Cross CPR (Required) And Standard First Aid Training Certification (Required) And Personal Fitness Training Certification by NSCA or ACSM (Required) Special Conditions for Employment Background Check: Continued employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory background investigation.
