We're looking for a Protection and Controls, Manager to join our Electric Utility Design team at our Overland Park or Wichita locations (in office).
Responsibilities: Provide leadership, mentorship, and direction for a small team of engineers, designers and/or drafters to develop protection and control design packages.Facilitate the development of protection and control drawing packages which may include:Panel DiagramsSchematics & Wiring DiagramsProtection Three-Line DrawingsPhasing DiagramsBill of Materials (BOM)Settings Files (including SEL .rdb type files) Provide relay protection and control engineering associated with medium to high voltage projects – 2.4kV thru 345kV Perform analysis and calculations necessary to develop protection and control design packages successfully. Use relay protection principles and practices for the application of microprocessor relays. Serve as Engineer of Record (EOR) in area of expertise, sealing design drawings as required. Create design criteria, material specifications, and protection philosophies appropriate for the designs, integrating client-supplied standards and requirements. Review vendor submittals and provide analysis/feedback.Effectively collaborate and communicate design requirements with other disciplines of the company including structural, civil, and survey.Develop proposals, scopes, conceptual/feasibility studies, cost estimates, relay settings, and schedules to support the awarding and execution of projects.Develop and maintain excellent client relations as a main point of contact.Attend client meetings to ensure the design meets their needs and objectives. Requirements: B.S. in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.PE license in Kansas preferred (or the ability to obtain the license in a timely manner).7-10 years of experience in substation design or related area.Knowledgeable on applicable codes and industry standards including the National Electric Safety Code (NESC), National Electric Code (NEC), applicable IEEE and other Industry Standards.Familiarity with NERC/FERC Reliability Standards.Knowledgeable and experienced with the development and selection of Generation, Transmission, Substation, and Distribution protection schemes and settings.Familiarity with a wide array of protective relays, test switches, lock-out relays, RTUs, and interfacing field equipment, including relays by SEL, ABB, GE, etc.Proficient with various software packages including AutoCAD, Mathcad, and other design tools.Working knowledge with design tools including Aspen One-Liner, ETAP, SKM Power Tools, Milsoft WindMil/LightTable, WinIGS, and GroundMat is preferred.Proficient in Microsoft Office.Highly organized, self-motivated, and able to handle multiple project tasks. Excellent presentation, written communication, time management, and organizational skills are required. Ability to work under the pressure of deadlines, be self-directed, exhibit good business judgment, and handle confidential information appropriately.
